I'll put my cuttings on Forum Table!

I have 3 excellent variety of extra cuttings that I can apart with.
They are all of Dark Figs, each with their own unique history.
I am thinking about all these options but only one will be used.

1-Auction each for The Figs4Fun Foundation

2-Send them to members for the shipping cost

3-Even exchange with other cutting (1 for 1= even exchange)

4-or eBay!

Total of 30 cuttings (18, 8, 6)

Please help me to decide how to do this and WHY.

Thanks

I can't tell you which way you want to go. All 4 ways are for very different reasons and it will depend on your specific situation.

If you're putting it up for a vote, I vote for the foundation!

Hey Aaron, if it were me I would trade for some I don't have unless I already had enough. If you have enough then the foundation would be nice of you or just offering them to the new folks is always appreciated and very rewarding. The cuttings that I've given to members made me feel better than receiving them.

1, 2, or 3.
I'd gladly send for postage if you go that route!

3 would seem the best if you want to grow you selection of plants, assuming of course there is interest from folks with varieties you want. You have a long list of wants in your signature, I would go that route first.

Hi Aaron4usa,
1-Auction each for The Figs4Fun Foundation    --> If you've received things from the sales - it is good to pay it back. But then you'll have to manage the auction ... not easy so goto 4B) .

2-Send them to members for the shipping cost --> Ok for me . Your choice .

3-Even exchange with other cutting  -->
Ok for me . Your choice . Do you have space left ? How did you do to have space left ? I would put fig trees so to say from the basement to upon the roof every 2 meters a tree :) .

4a)-eBay! --> Perhaps the first route to go and 4B) give the money to the
Figs4Fun foundation :)

So I would start with 3 and 4 A and B - and go with 2 .

i typically just send them to whoever wants them. i mean... they are just cuttings. if it's a rooted cutting in 1 gal and of more desirable variety, i would auction it for the f4ff.

Your scion your choice.    ; )

Us newbies don't have cuttings to trade, we'd prefer a pay option. Make it easy on yourself whatever you do. it is figs for fun.

Thankfully we are still a free country - it's your choice (well, except for sending them overseas legally).

You could always pick 3 of the choices, one for each of the 3 cuttings.

Can't help with your decision Aaron . Whatever you choose will be right for you.

Thanks for the responses.
I'm not in it for the money so I am scratching the eBay.
I decided to combine the 2&3 with exchange part being up to the forum member's discretion. (if it's exchange then each will pay their own shipping)
After all, feels great to receive a good cutting for free...regardless weather or not you are a newbie.

One thing though - I will put one of each cutting in one package (3 in 1) and create a spin for the highest offer. That money will go to Foundation including an entire set for the Paradise for John (the least I can do to pay forward for the forum).
The members can donate an amount to the Foundation by sending to PayPal that Jon may provide (this is the easiest method, so for those who don't have PayPal please create one, it's free). At the end of the decided time...Jon will see who's amount was the highest in PayPal and that person will receive the 3 cuttings (free of shipping).
The Foundation will receive all the donated amounts from the game and Jon will receive a set of 3 cuttings for the Paradise.

Sounds good?

Aaron Bro, I am here south of you.  You would have the Alma when it is ready this year so we can exchange, however, I have an Adriatic that has some little roots, do you want it?  I would love to have one each of the 3 types. You can send a private message.

Pete, as a legendary salesperson from our Forum (Suzi) said "I have something you don't have" or was it.."I have something you want!"  something,...LOL

Patriota, don't worry, I have an Alma with your name on it. But that's irrelevant to this thread.

What are the varieties?

Aaron, thanks for your generosity with the caprifigs.  I sent you cuttings yesterday.  Let me know what goodies you're looking at here in this thread, please. :)

I'd love one to try to root. I can cut a bunch from my unknown, but very nicely producing tree, if you like.

compost pile or new members with only one post.

@Harvey, you are welcome, don't mention it.

I will post Varieties with Pictures and History for each after Wednesday. So, by the end of the weekend I'll know who gets what and where to send them.

Be patient guys and gals, LOL

Lizzie, please don't feel obligated, as I mentioned your part is totally up to you... and not mandatory.

OK, here we go!

The rules are...
Make sure they root and grow :)

*One "combination package of 3 varieties" (premium cuttings) is for the auction for the highest bidder. Member will be welcome to donate an amount to F4FF PayPal account. At the end of the auction, which ends on Sunday midnight PST Jon will check the highest donor and let me know who it is so the cuttings can be shipped to winner of the Auction. Same time another set of Premium Cuttings of 3 will be donated to Jon for the Paradise. This will ensure a backup reserve for these varieties for members, Fare?
There will be a BONUS cutting, freshly arrived from Europe, for the winner's eyes only!
Good luck every one.

If you have anything of my wish list we can even exchange one for one, we each pay our s/h.

*If you don't have anything to exchange with, just pay the s/h $6, or whatever you wish...to my PayPal. (you need to PM me for that info) This way I don't get extra money in PayPal account to return, which is a headache.
As soon as cuttings are finished I stop giving out my PayPal info :)

** To be fare I have pre packed all the cuttings into one cutting per package and locked them, so, all I have to do is put address on them before shipping.
*** Since there are only 26 Total cuttings, please try not to ask for more than 2 (total) per member, to give as many members a chance as possible.

Thank you.

Here are all the information and pictures that I have on these varieties...

1- This medium in size dark fig, I have been told by the owner of the mother tree, is called "Sultani", meaning, worthy of a Sultan...
The original cutting of this tree was brought to United States by the owner who in 1980 became a refugee from Persia.
He was given the cutting by his father, whom he never saw again, to remind him of the home where he grew up.
I have tasted this fig last year from July all the way through November. It is a very fruitful tree that grows more with side ways than vertically.
Taste-wise ... it is very sweet and very juicy purplish black with hint of redness, the darkness is effected by the sun side exposure.

Here is the pic of the mother tree and the Breba, 60-80% of Breba drops... and they are 20% bigger and more elongated than the main crop.
The main crop is rounder and about 1.5", some up to 2 inches in size, dark pinkish-red inside that's very juicy. (I don't have the main crop pics).

There is only 16 cuttings of "Sultani"

2- This Purplish Black Medium in size fig is originally from Anatolia in early century (after WW1), brought by the relatives of the mother tree that I have in pictures.
The original tree was transplanted from Los Angeles to San Francisco in late 70's. The original owners in San Francisco and also the mother tree's owners in LA are Turkish      family.
The fig is Unifera, meaning it doesn't bare Breba, only main crop. Because of the fruit characteristics inside and out, with it's cracking of the skin at ripening, the leaf shapes and overall tree growth habit (medium), it is believed by many members of this forum to be Pastiliere in variety, or at least, looks and tastes like one, so, we'll call it "Unknown Anatilia Pastilliere" :)
The cracking of the eye, told by caprification experts, is due to wasps in LA and wasps improve the taste of the fig greatly by pollinating the fig. It is not necessary to have wasps with this fig.
     Here's some pictures...

3-This is a black fig of unknown variety, again, owned by a Persian family.
All he could say was that he had bought the tree from Beverly Hills Home Depot.
It was a special order that was never picked up by the ordering customer.
This variety does have Breba and is Bifera, meaning it gives two crops per year.
It will need long summer to ripen the red interior of the fruit with sweet and berry finish taste, which is cold hardy and vigorous grower.
    Here's some pictures...

I have only 4 cutting available of this  "Unknown Black Fig from Home Depot"

I know some forum members are nervous about giving cuttings to newer members but if possible I would love a cutting to start my collection :) I don't have anything on your wish list to trade so I would pay shipping, but if I ever have anything you want I will happily send you a cutting
Its great that you are doing this, some of us have very little access to unique varieties or really, fig cuttings at all.
Sorry, I am such a newbie, should I pm you?

Aaron is it possible the tree from Home Depot is a Black Mission. The leaf pattern and fruit sure look like it to me.

Nice, Aaron.  I have cuttings on the way from USDA Davis and two other members....I've heard it said hogs get slaughtered and will sit on the sidelines! :)

There is already a fig called Unknown Pastilliere.  We tasted it at Jon's last September.  I suggest you modify the name of yours somewhat to help avoid any further confusion.  Looks nice!
