Improved Celeste in Oregon?

I was surprised to see some Improved Celeste fig trees in a nursery here in Oregon, near Portland.

I have read many posts about the naming issues among the LSU breeding program's Improved Celeste varieties.

Is there a way to tell which this is?  No photo yet.

The most important thing to us is that it grow up to be a small tree (10 x 10).

Thanks.

Mac

You're probably referring to the difference between O'Rourke and what is commonly called improved Celeste. Perhaps the easiest way is to distinguish between the two is the variance of the common leaf patterns. The following link should answer your question in detail.

Thanks.

I will go and look.

That said, are those 2 varieties both about 10x10 trees, or does one get larger?

I can't find anything on size for these (the difference) on the internet.

Thanks.

The tree will be the size you prune it to.  If you never prune it it will probably get bigger than that depending on how cold your winters get, assuming you'll be planting it in the ground.  If you do be sure it has good drainage.

I asked about size because this tree would be sitting next to 3 Negronne figs, which are listed as growing to - about - 10 x 10 feet.
