Improvised Root Riot Chamber for 1 cutting

This is my version of how to do one cutting.  I cut a new hole in the bottom of the cube with a knife and inserted the cutting (no rooting hormone).  I'm using the cube upside down for more support and lightly packed damp spaghnum moss around the cube for more stability.  I'm using two 32 oz deli containers face to face and taped twice to keep it together.

That's a awesome ideal!! I got my cuttings setting with rr cubes in egg containers. Thry hold up the cubes with larger cuttings in them. They are in a make shift greenhouse with grow lights.

Steve,  very nice set up. Let us know how that works out and the time to see roots.

Yeap, I've done that too! I only used the coarse sand / aquarium gravel  instead of the moss, it keeps the cube vertically better.

Steve hope you do not mind - similar concept except potting mix and added perlite, did not know if root riot cubes were around back when this UcDavis pair of ScD were rooted in 2009.
They grew well with the figs in same year in these dated pictures .

Ahhh, we all think alike. ; )  We just add our own tweaks though.

Nicely done Steve, what's the cutting?

Unknown Bethlehem.  Tried 32 oz deli container with 60/40 perlite/potting soil, damp spaghnum moss, root riot.  Nada, zilch, goose egg, nothing.  I was (excuse the pun) rooting around in the frig to see what cuttings I could bring to LSU fig day and found a bag of these cuttings.  The one I am trying looked promising with that little green shoot at the top, it the last chance for these cuttings.  I'm sure it is going to work this time though.  I got a kinda warm and fuzzy feeling, you know like "the force".  The yin and yang is positve for this one, I know it.

So far so good.  Up potted to a 32 oz deli container with my usual initial stage mix except added one more part of perlite to make the drainage even better.  Also drilled some air holes in the side of the container.  The moss on the right of the root riot cube is entangled with roots so I left it alone.   The cutting had three leaves.  The two smaller ones dried up and fell off, the larger leave seems happy for now.

For Mike.......that was 10 days from start to see decent root growth.
