In ground tree yellowing leaves

Yes - my in ground trees leaves are yellowing, turning brown and falling off:(  It is freak'in HOT too!!  At 7pm, it is 103F - this is just wrong wrong wrong!!!

The tree has grown quite well this year - I'd say it is about 8'x8', give or take.  My guess is the heat has exacerbated FMV.

Here are some pictures.

The tree looks very healthy especially compared to trees here in central Louisiana right now.  What variety is the tree you posted?  Thanks.  Bill

I am not an expert but does not necessarily look like severe FMV to me. Others may chime in with more knowledge than me.,
maybe inconsistent watering / heat combo?

Shedding leaves in times of stress is quite normal. Here, we had a week of 72 and not sun in July, and trees thought "fall". So they started shedding leaves.

To me that looks like heat stress.  The same is happening to my Celeste and Improved Celeste.  Both are in the ground and get plenty of flowing air but not enough water for the roots.  We finally got rain the past 2 days but not sure its enough.  Both put on figs but with the lack of water, most dried up and fell off.  i would lay a soaker hose around it and let it run for an hour.

~i totally agree with you snag,i know about trees not getting enough water had them almost die on me totally wilted but once i started watering they are all doing good i water bucket and in ground trees every other day in dry spells like we are having now.you gave good advice you are a good fig man ~

You are in a tough spot. I'm guessing the heat we are having is stressing your tree causing it to shed leaves. This stress should produces tasty figs. To help your tree cope with heat stress it needs water. However water will degrade the quality of the figs.

My full grown in ground White Texas Everbearing has lost about 90% of its leaves. I held off watering until I picked the last fig. This morning I put the sprinkler under the tree and plan to let it run all day. From here on it will get watered on every third day until this heat subsides.

Since the tree is within the garden area it does get watered but not directly - meaning I don't run the water at the base of the tree, the surrounding beds get watered a few feet from the base of the tree.  I figure the root system has ventured beyond the initial planting so it does get water - may need a bit more then what I have been doing.  The figs have been very good!

There are green figs still on it, I figure I will have a few more figs over the next month or 2.  2 years ago I picked some in November!  Not the greatest but they were fresh:)

This is an LSU Purple - the members here ID'd it for me a few years ago, when I picked my first fig.  I did not prune it last winter, I wanted to see how much it would grow and I wanted to get a lot of figs.  There weren't as many as I thought there would be - we had a lot of rain in the spring and I believe that stunted the production.

As for the cuttings I have - I did manage to repot some of them - only took about 2 years!  And i still need to do a few more, they have been in the little 12oz cups for 3 years!   When the weather breaks a bit i will repot, they will have a couple of months more to grow.
