Inground trees progess this year. I'm happy

I have four in ground trees. I'm happy so far it looks like I will have a lot more figs this year then last year. I think having a more mild winter definitely helped out.

This is an unknown that appears to be very similar to Sals EL if not the same

Planted Early Sept/ Late August 2010

As of today. Also this past winter was the second winter inground and never protected

This is another unknown although I'm pretty sure it is a Brunswick or similar. Only one fig last year and not really ripe.

This is as of today. It grew a lot last year and was cut back some. It has a few Breba and a lot more main crop on it now.

This Hardy Chicago was going into its second year when I bought it last year. This was taken in July a month after I planted it.

This is as of today. I did protect it this past winter.

This is an MBVS. This was the same as the HC going into the second year and planted a month when this pic was taken. Lots of main crop showing up

This is was of today. It was also protected, but it did have some damage on the tips.

Your trees look healthy and green. Congrats.

But what's that stuff around them on the ground?  Is that grass?  I remember grass.  Out here we just have sand and rocks...

They look great. How did you protect them?  The great 6a unground experiment begins for me this year with an awesome brown turkey bonsai

Your trees look fantastic!! I really do like the leaves on the one you think is a Brunswick, hoping they are good figs too!

Slingha, I tied up the branches a little, wrapped burlap around it and filled the space in the middle with dried leaves, then went around it with tar paper and then a plastic tarp. I did not go over the top with the tarp I leaft it open at the top and for the old school Italian touch I put a bucket over top with some holes drilled in it fo moisture could escape.

Thanks Barry, it's looking like there are a good amount of figs on it this year and they are showing up now, so hopefully they will ripen all the way.

Good job- looking good.

If you haven't tasted a Florea, you may like it. Plus it will survive uncovered- South direction no problem. Kind of a Cinnamon sweet taste, if I remember correctly.
