Inquire about the seller on ebay

Hello all,
I intend to buy cuttings from ebay and I've seen there are some sellers on ebay that sell cuttings from plants fig. some of these sellers are:

1. edengrovenursery. he sells: Brogiotto Bianco, Filliciano,  and some other types

2. giorgos-Arvanitis. he sold some variants of greek.

3. maltaseeds27. he sells: Fracanazo Bianco, Malta Black, Ficazzana Black

4. o.coutard. he sells: Grise de Tarascon

Are there any members here who have experience dealing with the seller? and to the validity of the types of figs that are sold by the seller is how?

Thank you in advance.

For Greek varieties you can deal with Andreas Patras too.
He's a well known member on this and other fig forums and a source you can trust.
I wouldnt buy anything from Malta, they've been having problems with an African beetle that destroyed a large quantity of their fig trees last year.

ANDREAS PATRAS IS THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR GREEKS. HE HAS REALLY NICE CUTTINGS THAT ROOT QUICKLY. YOU WILL RECEIVE TRUE TO VARIETY. RICHIE

Is it legal to buy from other countries?

If you're from Europe or the far east it is.

Good for you. It is not legal in USA unfortunately.

We do not know where you are. But this forum is for people from all over the world, and the writer of this thread is in Indonesia, I believe. There is no need to preach or be judgmental about where people get their cuttings. Most people are aware of the laws and risks, and it is nobody else's business unless someone makes it so in their inquiry or thread, which is not the case here.

I somewhat agree with the feelings expressed by rafaelissimmo .

"judgmental"? Why?

It was a question - should or should not I order from other countries, or I will get in trouble . Most of members have experience in this field , I do not.

Cay it is all fun and games until six months from now they show up at your door and confiscate all of your trees.

Thank you. It was exactly what I was looking for. Honest answer .

Wait What lol!!! Wait a minute.....who has this happened too!!!!!! All my Trees???? wait a minute guys...give me more to go on here. you definately got my attention.

Reading some of the USDA Import Policy....Does a 2 year old bareroot Fig tree fall into this accepted Import Category found on their website...I think it Might   http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/plants/plant_imports/downloads/q37_size-age-chart.pdf

All I know is "Big Brother" watches Ebay sales, especially plant related from other countries.  We have imported many evil pests and diseases from other countries, and they aren't happy about it.  If you live in the USA and buy from another country on Ebay, know that they are watching the transaction.

If you buy from a legitimate nursery with all the clearance papers and certifications from another country, you are fine.  You will pay more, but you will not be questioned.  I ordered a rose bush from the UK last year.  Took a year to get here, but the paperwork was in order, and the bush is starting to bud.  It's a climber and a beauty.  Sally Holmes.

I did order some stupid seeds from Pakistan on Ebay.  Got the customs confiscation letter, but no visit.  The only visit I have ever had from the Agricultural people was because I feared the Asian Citrus Psyllid had gotten to my trees.  They did come out and inspect, and I did have the bug, but it wasn't carrying the disease.  And they told me they would only quarantine IF the disease was present.

I think one of the problems is, pests can hide their eggs in the bark of a cutting.  Get the picture?  Seems harmless until they hatch.........

Thanks for the info Suzi,

I spoke With Liza who is running Edens Grove, she claims that she ships to the USA regularly wihtout issue, is she gasing me up? I guess I'll find out if it's 93 or unleaded.

Willing to sell my soul for a Col De dame Blanc at this point lol, first time rooting Col de Dame Noir as soon as I get home from work tonight!!! I have my Green Thumbs crossed

Has anyone took a look at the Import policy for certain Trees allowed?   http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/plants/plant_imports/downloads/q37_size-age-chart.pdf

In my opinion, I would not buy from a USA supplier if they said their source is from outside the US. Why? Well, let's say a year or two down the road, APHIS/USDA finally discovers the source of the USA supplier and decides to confiscate all of their plants, then discovers he/she has sold to others in the US, will APHIS come knocking on our door, and will they only confiscate the illegal plants or all? It's their decision of what to confiscate, not for us to dispute especially knowing all of the penalties for obtaining illegal cuttings/plants.

Thank you all for having responded my writing.
About andreas patras, I'm dealing with him and hopefully our transaction goes smoothly. andreas just had a variant of Greek course and I want other variants.
sorry I can not reply to all the responses you all, because of my limited ability to speak English. to be able to understand conversations even here I use googletranslate. LOL

I disagree
A caution was made about a dangerous agricultural pest from Malta.  That should be everyone's business.  If you imported such a pest into your country, damage could be hundreds of millions.  I would judge that to be a highly irresponsible act.

Hello,

Does anyone have any reason to feel that o.coutard on e-bay is not selling what he is representing? He has a number that I would be interested in but want to make sure I am getting what I am paying for.

Thanks!

That seller is in France. If you are in the US, avoid those auctions.

He's legit,email him.

A USDA Agent visited me at my house here in Alabama after buying Fig Cuttings, from Portugal, off eBay!!

Here is my post about it  here in Sept. 2013:

http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/usda-man-shows-up-6543330?highlight=usda+man&pid=1279691214#post1279691214

"Big Brother" can check your buying history on eBay , as by the way anybody else, who is interested.

I always check a buying history of the seller, and if I see that he is buying from oversees I am trying to avoid this seller-  it is a possibility that all  his trees may be infected.

But anyway, after all it is free country, so it is your decision "to be or not to be" the person who will bring a dangerous pests along with cuttings or trees from other country.

It's a free country until your actions harm others and/or the environment in the free country.
