Instead of "Synonyms"

Perhaps we should call them "also mistaken for"

As Jon says this is the "fun" of figs

um, fun? it's a big pain.

Susie, you're in the pain phase. In time you will move on to the fun stage.

Jon,
Approximately how long does it take to get from the pain phase to the fun stage?  Is it measured in years? ;-)  And do I have to vanquish ALL the fungus gnats before I get there?
Jim

I guess I skipped the pain phase and went straight to the fun phase b/c I'm just havin' a ball.  =)  Yeah, I think I may have killed my LSU Tiger, which sucks, but if I did, I can always buy another and learn from my mistakes.  It's all good.  ;-D

As I understand, the terms 'Synonyms' and 'also mistaken for' represent two different definitions.

'Synonyms' is when it is understood that the two are considered as the same cultivar and just happened to be different name for the same type.

But 'also mistaken for' obviously means that by mistake the two are considered the same because of some outward similarities but in realities are different cultivar.

Just my opinion...
