Interesting Find ...

Awesome job and nice to meet you.
Oh man I'm jealous I love trees/stories like that if you go back let me know I would love to grow some of those here on long island maybe we can make a trade.

Nate the law says branches growing over the fence is yours for the taking. You did not climb over the fence did you? So you will e fine, stop feeling guilty. LOng ago, I picked some plums from a branch hanging over  a neighbour's fence, they were very sweet. I made a few trips commando style till I learnt it was their property anymore since the branch was on our side of the fence. Lol

Referring to post#35:
Most important, the fruit seems to be of a very 'looongish' type (like a cucumber-fig).
The eye is red, meaning that the ripe pulp will be on the 'dark' side (as already indicated in the pic).
Most likely, the skin will remain on the 'light' side (take that Martin).
Also, the leaves do look nice too.

Happy first day of Spring, everybody!

Aloha, Annie.  Fortunately, there are branches that hang over and through the fence.  But it seems the maintenance/grounds keepers lop these off whenever they start to show through, leaving the branches pretty much stumps.  The good stuff is on the triple-canopy "jungle side" of the fence, and that needs a commando-style mission.

Aloha, George.  Yeah, it's still a dark green color and the eye is still closed (sorry, Martin).  Whichever it is, I'm sure it'll be a winner.

Sorry the pic is sideways.  I was using my phone to take the pic.

Stella ?!? (anyone guess).

Aloha, George.  Stella was on my short list for what this fig might be.  However, the leaf pattern was too dissimilar, so I crossed it off.  The fruit does look strikingly like the PH fig.  I plan taking more pics today.

Nate

One of my cuttings has rooted already.  Hoping for leaves soon!

Sweet news, Bob!  Can't wait for pics.  Buds will break for me before this weekend hopefully.  They're peeking through.

Nate

Look good.  Can't wait to hear the report on the ripe figs

Aloha, fig friends!  As promised, pics of the Pearl Harbor unknown leafing out.  I have two cuttings that are taking off like they're on steroids. One cutting died from overwatering, I'm surmising.  The mother tree is happily still there, and so are the breba figs; still not ripened yet.

Whatever the variety, that is a pretty cool story. Glad the cuttings are growing for you

Aloha, friends.  I've good news and disastrous news... First the good.  The cuttings I took, though not all, are thriving and doing well.  They have taken off nicely and have started to branch out.  I have one plant in a three gallon and another in a one gallon that may need to be up potted soon.

Now the bad.  I drove past the fig tree this past Monday, as I do when I come back from the doc's office.  The tree is no more :(  It is dead/dying and by the looks of it, cannot be revived.  It looks as if it got poisoned.  Apparently the maintenance crew were told to trim back and destroy the vegetation around the old housing. Seems that homeless people have been squatting in the abandoned houses and the bushes were providing them cover from base police.  I wasn't able to take pics because I was running late for another appointment, but I will try to take some pics tomorrow morning.
So, to all those I sent cuttings to, ensure the PH unknown carries on in your neck of the woods as the mother tree looks to be gone.

Nate,

So awesome that you saved it. Anyone have ideas as to what cultivar it is?
