Introducing me

After enjoying the shared experiences, information and enthusiasm on this forum, I'd like to introduce myself:

I am a 4th generation Taylor County, Florida native, living in the woods between thousands of acres of  planted pines, about 10-miles west of the small town of
Perry where I was born and raised. Our large, rural county has a long Gulf coastline (7-miles from me as the crow flies,) and is about 50-miles below Tallahassee.

My involvement with plants spans several decades but with figs it is mostly standing under a Brown Turkey competing with the birds.

I hope to continue learning and having new adventures with all the tastes described here.

Warm welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the site!

Glad to have you on board.

Welcome to the forum Abe.

I think there are a couple of other forum members that are not too far from your location. They're growing some good figs so you should be able to grow some good ones where you are as well.

I lived in Naples, FL for 10 years. I guess that's a few hours south of you though.

Welcome to the forum

Welcome from Southern California!  We will enjoy hearing about your figs as time goes by!  Everyone here is very helpful, so don't hesitate to ask if you need help with something!

Welcome from NorCal and may you compete successfully against the birds!

Welcome to the forums, best of luck with beating the birds to the figs :).

You have a fairly good nursery with a lot of fig varieties close to you.

They sell at reduced prices if you pick up.

I am over close to Pensacola. We don't have to fight the colder weather as most do. All my rooted figs and potted figs are out enjoying the sun today. Glad to have you with us. As far as the birds go, you have to out produce their craving. Had people tell me they did not grow blueberries because the birds got all of them. I now have hundreds of bushes 8-12 feet. There is not enough birds in the county to eat them.

Welcome

Nice to have you on the forum and look forward to reading about your gardening adventures and seeing pictures!

Jake - I like your approach - grow enough for everyone!!

Welcome from the wet and green pacific northwest!

Welcome to forum. You'll enjoy it here.

You live in one of my favorite areas of Florida. I have spent many days fishing for specks and reds from Panacea over to Apalachicola. I don't get down that way nearly as much as I'd like these days.
