Introduction

Hello, I've been a member on here for a little while now but don't believe or remember if I've even introduced myself yet. Well a little about me, I love growing fruit bearing trees. It's quite addictive but it's been all worth it. Its actually come in handy, especially in this economy. I was laid off about 6 months ago and have had to rely on my fruits when I had no choice but to look for ways to cut corners and pinch our budget. That's actually how I started looking into figs. Figs have had a good reputation for being very productive and in short time.

A couple of days ago while cruising threads, I came upon one awesome thread  where a member had this room full of cuttings being rooted. When I asked how such amount of cuttings is acquired, I was given the advice to introduce myself and other advice was to trade. Unfortunately, none of my trees are large enough to take cuttings from. I currently placed fig orders through One Green World and Willis for Lsu Gold, brown turkey, Mission, Hardy Chicago and Desert King. All are still very small and not bearing fruit yet.

Fast forward a couple of days later and driving around town I spotted a gigantic fig tree. I can't explain to you how exciting that felt. I will finally have cuttings to play with.!!! While taking cuttings, I thought of my forum members so I took extras. These figs might be brown turkey, but whatever they are  still fruiting and ripening despite the snow and frost we've had. Fruits were not fully ripe but were suprisingly very sweet. I could only imagine how the ripe ones  taste.

I have taken many cuttings and would happily love to share. All I ask is you pay for shipping.$6. I've never shipped cuttings or know the cost,  you can just send me the amount stamped on the envelope. I am also looking to expand my collection so a trade would be lovely and actually appreciated instead of shipping. I'm new to this whole trade thing so please forgive me if I'm doing this wrong. Please PM me if interested :)

Tree is over 20 feet, heavily branched.

Great Photos, I have to many cuttings started right now, you should get good response through out the week.....its probably late on the East Coast.   Also Welcome to the Forum...within a year you should have many projects started like the rest of us...LOL......Thanks for the Generosity.

Lol thank you Armando. Someday I'll  get to say I have too many cuttings  too :) (aside from the ones right now)

Welcome to the forum Sherry!  I don't know what that treasure you discovered is, but it's not ripe yet.  Good luck to you.  You will find members here are generous to genuine requests.  That is a really interesting tree you posted.  No leaves to compare.  Somebody here will ID it.
Suzi

Thank you Suzi, I'm feeling a little more confident now :)

Hi.  Welcome to the forum!

Mike

Welcome!

Sherry,
Did you have any luck with the Black Mission cuttings?

WOW pictures!!!!!

What a beautiful tree!  The cool thing is you start your sticks and as you acquire new varieties you can graft into already started ones and you will have more than one kind in one tree.    if you want some of mine fig, just check my latest post 'cuttings available', I still have a few I can take from the tree.

GreenFig, thank you yes they are doing great and have leafed out well.  Those cuttings had so much energy stored in them that I had to pot them up fast. I had deleted all my messages and couldn't remember your handle name to update them. I also ordered some because it seems the mission out here look a bit different and wanted to try different source.

Grasa, thank you,  that is an excellent idea! I never thought of anything like that. Thank you.

Welcome.

Sherry,
Great news! Yes, that tree roots super fast! I called it a Mission but it may not be, for my taste it is a superior fig and competes with anything around, and it doesn't split!
When you have the figs next year, I would be interested to see a photo.

Welcome!

Welcome Sherry

Awesome pictures..................

Thank you everyone. Greenfig, I would happily do that for you. I have a feeling that the fruits might be slightly different because of our humiditiy here.

I have over 70 request now and will start sending them out Monday. All cuttings are spoken for :) If you missed out I will take some more in the Spring just please remind me. Thank you everyone.

Welcome.... That a wonderful fig tree and the fruit too.....
