Hello fig lovers, I'm Kevin new to the trade.
I'm from Southeast Mississippi, country boy haha. I have a nice big front and back yard and wanna fill it up with figs lol. I bet everyone here feels the same way. I got my start from my grandmother. Growing up my grandmother had this old scary looking fig tree it was rather tall 15ft and big branches at the bottom 15ft wide, and had a creepy looking limb/branche system. The type of tree u would see in a scary movie, dead looking, but it makes the sweetest tasting figs, pure syrup two crops a year melts in your mouth thin skin closed eye. In the earily 90's my father took two small ones from it some how not sure if he dug up small ones or what but this was our first fig tree. So we had our own scary looking fig trees lol. In 05 Katrina blow one out of the ground and the lack of care and age was getting the best of the other one. So from that point on, I Took to the figs haha and have been adding new figs since last year. I'm learning little bit at a time, how to clone figs from cuttings / air layering how to pot them what type of soil to pot them in rather. Seems like if u just take a cutting and stick it right in a pot of normal soil and leave it in the shade I never lost a cutting, simple and fast!. Now it's time to learn best fertilizers to use. I used the Internet to find all my other figs. Black Madeira or so I hope lol! Black Mission, VdB, Magnolia Brunswick, LSU Purple, Chicago hardy , Brown Turkey and this mystery fig, and for greens I have the Ischia, and Desert king. I got these at 4" or so when I got them in 2015 and they didn't grow any!! From 2015-2016. This year I used a miracle grow natures cure slow release. And they jumped inches over night! There has to be better stuff just for figs or so I would think. Some would say stay with what works, I'm learning and slowly growing and adding figs and wanna see what's out there that's better. Anyone??? If anyone thinks they may know what type of fig this one is I'm all ears, in this case eyes haha. It sours quick better get soon as it ripens or It will be taken by birds or about sour within a day or so. Looks like a Texas everbear but I could be wrong. It's fig size is about double thumb size when u press your thumbs together. No eye color neither. No eye really well a tight closed one. Okay, maybe people want see this long message or whatever u wanna call it, and be like NAh!! To much to read haha . Thanks
