Introduction and Thanks

I have been lurking and learning here since winter 2015/2016, and wanted to finally thank everyone for all of the invaluable knowledge that is shared here.

As a child my family had 3 fig trees, no idea what variety but all dark with red pulp, and brought from Italy. We grew peaches and strawberries as well, but the figs were always my favorite, no contest. We brought the trees with us from NY to PA, but eventually they were lost. And that was the last year (1989) I had a fresh fig. Fast forward to November 2015 and a Craigslist ad from a friendly local forum member for fig cuttings...

I started rooting 5 varieties, and well, as apparently tends to happen with others here, was bitten by the bug, and long story short, ended up overwintering 107 plants in 43 varieties this past winter... I tried various rooting methods, but mostly cuttings prone in coir bins. Overall I had a 63% success rate. Lost 6 varieties. This year I think I've settled on treepots with parafilm wrapped cuttings, and no humidity bins, and am having good success so far. I have also bought some plants this year. Number of varieties has at least doubled.... :S

I was fairly disciplined in removing all of the figs to get good growth the first year, but did end up leaving a few each of Adriatic JH, Excel, and Vista. They were fantastic and we are so excited for the future.

Welcome to the forum, though you come in with some level of expertise.

Welcome!  Expect to keep on doubling every 2 years.  My version of Moore's law.  :)

I'm sure you know there are many growers in PA.  On the off chance you don't already know, this guy has grown figs and other zone challenged fruit forever and he's a great resource

Doubling every 2 years, scary thought but I suspect you're correct.
