Irrigation

Found myself in a jam will be out of town for 8 days coming shortly and my neighbor who waters for me is having surgery.
Nothing fancy but this is it
1/2 in poly
micro tubing
1gal/hr drip emmiters
battery operated timer hooks up to water faucet
Put 2 emmiters in large pots and 1 in 3 gal pots Now I have to figure out the time length and might have to add or change size in large pot. Have only 7 days to figure out any input on time or size appreciated

Sal

Sal this is pretty easy to set up, I have done this for clients when I worked as an irrigation technician. If your worried about the amount of water run a manual test for 5 minutes and insert the misters in empty buckets and see if that will be too much of too little water compared to what you usually use. Then from there you can add or reduce time or adjust or replace nozzles.

1) If you have some idea of how many gallons you use when hose watering, then figure from there. I am going to guess that you need about 1/4-1/2 gallon of water per gallon of soil.

2) Turn the system on for 30 min, and see if that is enough water to begin to emerge from the drain holes. If not, turn it back on for another 30 minutes, and repeat till you get watere out the bottom of the pot. That should give you a pretty good idea.

3) A little over watering shouldn't hurt them, because of the ability of the pot to drain (as opposed to being in ground)

4) If they get some water, even if it is a little shy, they should be fine for 8 days. Some is definitely different than none.
