Is Battagalia Green a late fig?

I have a Battagalia Green that I started from a cutting last year. I overwintered it in a pot in a heated shed. Now it is still potted, but 3/4 buried in mulch. It has not been a strong grower.

It did  not put on figlets like the other figs I overwintered in the shed. My other potted figs are starting to ripen produce main crop figs now. But suddenly the BG is putting on small figlets. Just starting this it is questionable if they will ripen.

Does anyone have insights about BG they would like to share? I  have heard it was a great fig, but if it produces this late, even after wintering in a heated shed, I don't think I can successfully grow it here in zone 7b.

The mother tree was found growing in ground in Virginia - I assume zone 7.  It was sold by Paradise Nursey around Virginia Beach (now closed).  Yes it is a late fig (and doesn't put on main crop as quickly as some other figs for me as well) but it definitely has ripened for people in the northeast and mid-atlantic.  Mine is in its third season and is growing in ground.  It froze back almost to the ground but should still ripen a few figs.  Many other figs are developing that probably won't ripen unless we get an abnormally long, warm Fall. My guess is that it needs some maturity to start setting a crop earlier.

Good to know, I will remove the figlets this  year, but keep it in the pot and heated shed for another winter. Then can perhaps have a better idea of how it will do next year.

Good luck.  It should definitely fruit for you in zone 7B if grown in a container and shuffled in the Spring to give it an early start.

I would leave a few on.  It might ripen 2 or 3.  It ripens figs for me in 6 so it should do well for you.  It is late but it still tastes great.

Battaglia need more than 90 days to ripen. I started mine in the greenhouse early this spring and most main crop had set by early May. I expect them to ripen in the next 2-3 weeks. Last year many were curiously watery and not that great. We'll see whether they are better this year.

BG is a late variety if . . . see below.
Mine came from source tree which is no longer alive but was at Foley Castle in Petersburg VA.
To me it is the best fig I have ever tasted. It is one of the berry types like Vas. Sika, JH Adriatic CdDam Blanc, etc.
Mine is about 10 to 12 feet and in a 15 g pot.
It is a slow rooter.
It is slow to put on figs.
Mine has never had brebas.
I'm in zone 7A and it ripens just fine - but late.
BG is a must have in my opinion.
Mine ripened figs starting 9-8 in 2013 and 9-4 in 2014 - This is about a month after my first crop figs start to ripen on Florea and the other early varieties.
Mine is retired each fall to an unheated garage with windows on 2 sides but no heat.
I hope that helps.

Battaglia Green is a historic fig but those details will have to wait for another time.
