Is Coffee good for the fig tree?

I know some people that throw there leftover Greek grind coffee on the soil around the base of there fruit tree.
They say that is very good for the tree/vegetables...
Is that true? does anyone else heard of this?

My grounds always go to the plants.  Depending on how the coffee was brewed the grounds can be acidic to neutral.  Drip machines leave more acid in the grounds and the grounds from a good espresso machine will be just about neutral.  While some people will say not to use the grounds on the alkaline loving figs, in reality it does not matter.  Because it is an organic acid as soon as the soil bacteria work on the grounds they will become neutral in the soil.  So yep grounds are good, adds tilth.

I mix them with my compost (mostly hardwood leaves) to get it hot. On Saturday I added about 50 lbs from the Caribou coffee shop around the corner from me. They started leaving them out for gardeners so I don't even have to ask anymore. They attract hoards of earthworms so it must be pretty good for the soil. Most of mine go to the summer garden and blueberries instead of the figs though.

I am a big believer in using them. I will probably try on the figs once I get my garden soil where I want it.

Yeap, I use the ground coffee in my compost too. Decomposes quite rapidly.

It depends on the fig.  If you put Greek coffee grounds on a French fig it'll die.  But if you put Greek coffee grounds on a Greek fig it'll flourish.  Figs from Malta and Spain will do ok with Greek coffee.
