one of my figs

 can  anybody tell me what variety is it ？

Takes pictures when the fruit gets ripe and then it will be somewhat easier to try and identify.

I am starting to think that the name is generic.

Dominick I agree with what you said and it does seem there are a few different figs being called lampeira. Do any of us have the real one? Anyhow to make matters worse it is not even called lampeira anymore in portugal the name being used today is Lampas or Lampa Preta now these 2 names were also used back in the day but as synnonyms.

Nelson's figs look like the Lampiera I'm familiar with. According to Condit Lampeira synonyms include Portoghese, Lampas, and Figue des Confiseurs. I've been going by the old world painting I've attached for what a true Lampiera (fico Portoghese) should look like. It is green with some fading into brown/violet. Just my 2 cents...anyway, this is the Lampiera I've sought and hopefully now have. Next year should tell.

Hi Sue, thanks for posting that pic. If im not mistaken my Lampeira is the same as your's got my tree from Jon last year. main crop figs have not dropped yet but they are not doing much either at this point one thing I did find interesing is when I looked next to the main crop figs I see no buds for new branches. Have noticed this before on my desert king aswell only really becomes visible once they fall off naturally. Is this typical of San Pedro type figs? I will certainly give my lampeira a couple more season's and see what happen's.

Exactly for the reasons you state I am not sure what I have but it did taste good for 1.5 year old. Mine is dark almost like MBVS and the main crop DID ripen, which is not indicative of what I read for it.

To me, taste is most important in a fig, not the name. I'd rather have an excellent unknown than a known BT. ;-) A Panachee I bought from Home Depot a couple years ago never produced striped figs, just solid green but it was an OMG excellent flavor, a real keeper whatever it is. I think it may be Adriatic/Strawberry but who knows? It may even be a Reverse? As long as it tastes good it's a keeper.

Absolutely agree. Who cares about a name. They can have the most beautiful name and taste bland.
