Is it normal?

Is it normal for the first ripe figs on a lsu purple to ripen and not be purple? I just planted this lsu purple at the start of spring with 3 large figs already on it, well the figs went from dark green to light green and are getting soft and starting to droop but they never turned purple. I am kind of hesitant to pick it. I just wanted to know if it was possible for them to ripen with out turning purple, or they were mislabeled at the nursery?

Instead of asking if it is normal maybe I should have asked if its possible.

Quackmaster I don't have an LSU Purple so I will wait to hear from a few members who do. However I have some serious reservations about the voracity of that label. I think it may have some serious splainin to do.

Not lsu purple, I'm not sure, but it seems like a kadota?

Thanks, I just called the nursery where I bought it and she said it could possibly be transplant shock or the labels got mixed up with lsu gold. They said the only fig trees they sell is Celeste, lsu purple, and lsu gold. These figs aren't shaped like lsu gold from all the other pics I've seen, so I'm stumped.

It's not stress, it's not LSU Purple, it's not LSU Gold and it's not Celeste. I think Bass may be correct, it does look like a Kadota.

looks alot like my pete's honey too, how is the eye. i dont have lsu purple but my pete's honey starts off with green figs (thats what my pic is) then they ripen up a bit larger and lighter. just a thought.

The eye was closed until yesterday and it opened up just the slightest.

My Peter's Honey has only 1 and 3 lobe leaves.

It's not ripe yet but it probably wont turn purple.  Wait until the figs hang limp before tasting it.  See if you like the figs before returning it.  It's almost certainly not any kind of purple fig.  If the figs aren't great get your $$ back.  Show us the eye and when they're ripe show us the inside.

I just seen a few pics of lsu gold that was shaped like these, and also hollier from the lsu program resembled these figs, maybe its one of them

I sure will rcantor, if its good ill keep it for sure, I have enough room for one more tree so I'll buy another "lsu purple" if I have to.

pic of my pete's honey from last year. dont know how well you can see the leaves.

They are similar, I'll wait to see what the main crop looks like, I want to hold on the the lsu gold theory until i'm proven wrong again, just because I want to think there is some truth to what the nursery told me, lol. The nursery is local here but they don't do any of their own propagation, they buy their trees from another nursery a little further up the road.

If this is a breba, it may look different then the main crop.

Last year, I bought a labeled "Celeste".  After I posted pictures of the main crop, it was ID'd as LSU Purple.  It did have a breba on it that was HUGE compared to the main crop, it also looked different then the man crop.

I hope it's a keeper!

Tomorrow or the the next day I'll order a lsu purple, but with my luck the main crop on this tree will turn purple and I'll have one if the only trees that go from green to purple, lol

JoAnn, growing up down here most of my family had Celeste figs, some were brown and some were closer to the purple side, at least everyone thought they were Celeste, they were all great figs none the less and hopefully yours will be too.

This is the eye of one of them, I checked it this morning and it just fell off in my hand, I'll cut it in half this afternoon.

The LSU Gold has a unique shape and even with my inexperience I feel the first pictures you posted are 100% not LSU Gold. If we could get a side shot of the last it could probably be confirmed.

These are the last pics I have of them, they are lacking the flattened shape of the lsu gold.

On the inside it looks like my pete's honey. But with these pics of the outside I now amm unsure as my pete's honey don't look quite like that.

Congratulations, its a boy!

The figs had a few somewhat dry seeds towards the eye, I guess that's the best way to explain it, as I am unfamiliar with figs like this. All the figs I'm use to are juicy through and through, this is the first time I personally found a "dry spot" in a fig.

Also the taste was a little blan, not much flavor, I'll give it another chance though being this is the trees first fruits, hopefully the main crop will be better.

The dry parts at the end are male flowers. It looks like Gillette.
