is it normal for branch to look like this?

been concerned about the trees since they have been under the shade for awhile and i have been watering them often.

i have been noticing that branches look rather strange. it doesn't look like scale or anything, nothing comes off when i scratch it. some there are some dumps and color change. is the branch just hardening? or is it some sort of disease?

here is the pict.

rafed,

thanks for the quick reply. i need to learn to relax and enjoy this fig thing more...

Yes Bullet you will really enjoy that fig when its nice and ripe.
Course you know its of the dark type and a very good one in my opinion.   ; )

Pete,

I know the feeling, I'm with you on that one.

With the cold flashes we're getting, the hardening off is starting much earlier.

my first growth is hardening off right now as well.

a couple of my trees like Kadota, Gino's Black, Voiture, JH Adriatic, Conadria have put on almost 18" of growth in under 2 weeks.

Good growing going on this year!!

Dom,

Don't know about the cold flashes but I'm here in Eloy, Az. and it is 113F.
Even the fig trees want to be indoors under the air conditioning.

I will be in Phoenix for the next couple days and it will be right up there temps wise.

No sight seeing for me.

good to know it's hardening off and not diseased. i'll be cutting most of the hard branches off come spring for trade. the rest will be given to cub scouts in my den to try their hands in fig. maybe i'll try rooting them first then give to the boys. don't want them to get too frustrated and give up on growing things.

Here is a situation you would be worried about-

how can i be sure if it's scale or just hardening off? i do see dark dump on some of the branches. i tried to scrape it off, but not coming off. they look like part of the plant, but i'm not sure.

the trees are finally happy. should i spray it with something?

In short no.
Just like the FMV showing in several leaves at 9 o'clock in your picture absolutely nothing to worry about.

Your plant is fine.

how about this?
