Is it ok to leave fig trees outside now?

Hi, trees spent winter in attached garage here on Long Island NY. I put them outside yesterday. Is it ok to leave potted fig trees outside now in a mainly shaded area. Then in a week or so I will move into more sun. Temps here in 60s during day and down in mid 40s at night but no threat of freezing temps in next week. Thoughts?

No one can make that decision for you.  Are they leafed out yet?  Looking at the long range forecasts in your area do you think it'll get near 34?  Can you move them back in if you need to?

If they're not leafed out they can go right to full sun as long as you think it wont freeze or you can put them back in if there's a risk.  If they are leafed out you have to start in shade but you want to get them used to sun ASAP.  Just know that a light frost will kill any green growth.

Welcome to the forum!

For me, low 40s and they go back in the garage. As Bob said, they can be in full sun if they started budding with full sun. Otherwise slowly adapt them to full sun over the next 2-3 weeks. Good luck and welcome!

I put my three dormant trees in full sun when night time temps were consistently in the upper 40s. They slowly woke up and are growing beautifully now. I put them back in the garage if night time temps dropped into the low 40s (happened a few times, but no big deal with just a few trees). I did wake them up a tad earlier, but I'm hoping they will also grow faster after getting a little head start!
