Is it the famous Vasilika Sika fig?

I got this two cuttings from one of my Greek fiend . This tree is in his fathers backyard for last 30 years. When he ask his mum about the variety, she only can say it is Aspra Sika ( White Fig ). Can any one please help me to identify this variety. The fig is excellent in taste and very juicy. Hope fully my christmas came early..thanks Santa.

Nice figs when ur friends pruning happy to trade.

Nice fig but not Vasilika. Leaf and skin colour could be Zailata.

Very nice fig

Bexley Rabbit mate I don't think it is Zailta , here is a picture of that fig posted in fig4fun forum before and this leaves are different and also my friend's fig are more greenish.

John can you please shed some light to help me. You saw more figs than any one of us can see in their lifetime. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the Vasilika Sika is the same as Stella then what you have on your photos is not it.

i put my 5 cents worth here.

I dont go soley on leaves.

I have a tree that has came from the peleponese part of greece from an old timer and I believe ita the vasilika sika.  the leaves have shapes like kausick has shown and by leon.  I find the leaves are more finger like and elongated if in complete full sun, while its more broader if in part shade.

Yes, a leaf does not maketh a fig alone, my Black Genoa had 3 different leaves at once last year. But I think Greek commercial growers would know their figs better than anyone (see link below). With all the photos that I have seen from Greece and my discussions with a grower, none of the true Vasilika varieties have mature finger-lobed leaves. As to whether they are Zailata or not, I do not know.

There are at least 20 Greek varieties and the general populace don't know their individual names. They commonly refer to figs as being either MAVRA SIKA (Black Fig) or ASPRA/LEFKA SIKA (White Fig). It is misleading to have named a variety 'MAVRA SIKA' because in Greece there are many varieties of MAVRA SIKA!.

Even now in Australia, Greeks call figs with even the slightest dark tinge 'MAVRA' and any fig with a green or yellow colour as 'ASPRA'....we like to keep things simple. ;)

By the way for those that are curious, SIKA is prounounced 'SEE-ka' .

Apologies if this has been previously explained by another Greek member here.

Hey but who cares? That green fig still looks great!

That's a good photo.

Correct translation of 'Vasilika' is actually 'royal'. If it literally meant 'king and queen' we would be calling them 'Vasilia and Vasilisas Sika'.

VS looks very much like White Greek.
