Pretty much just like the title says. I was edging around my house and i use Preen in the flower beds, although I question how effect it is. I was getting to the side of the house with the in ground trees and I decided I should check if this might be something to avoid around a fruit tree. i guess too are there any other products I should avoid? I have already used some lawn fertilizer near the tree but not on it and I want to spread something near on the lawn to kill grubs in hopes of getting rid of moles.

it says the organic preen is completly safe around fruits, vegtables flowers.
I cannot say one way or the other just passing on the site information.

Thanks, I need to check. I don't know if I bought the organic one, but it probably is ok as well. i just wanted to check...

When you understand the way this stuff works along with crab grass control you can use it around your trees. What it does is create a vapor barrier so that any weed seeds that germinate will be killed when the first part hits the barrio.  This only works if you do not break the layer of gas formed in this barrio.  Depending on how deep you stir in these pre emergent can stunt the growth of any annual's that you may later plant in beds. Also check the label some will only last 30 days. You may have had crabgrass control put on your lawn only to have a lot of crabgrass where you edge this is because you have destroyed the vapor barrier from the chemical.

Thanks, I did not know that was how it worked, but I have to say I was curious how it worked. I havnt planted anything this year. Annuals only last the one season, so if I planted already growing flowers the weed preventer might stunt them?

It depends on how much chemical you have put on the ground and how deep in is in your soil. The way some landscapers work is to apply a good amount of Treflan same a Preen to the mulch bed and than cover it with several inches of mulch. This will create a vapor barrier under the mulch.  If you apply Preen on the surface of your bed and do not work it in you can dig it back and not have it in the new planting area. Greatly disturbing the area of application after a rain  will also disrupt the vapor barrier and make it useless.
