Is root growth on cuttings delayed by light

I'm noticing my cuttings in cottage cheese containers and other opaque containers are growing roots out the drain holes before the leaves opened but the cuttings in clear cups are leafing out without roots. This seems more apparent every day. Is this just a coincidence?

Think about it.  Roots grow in the dark.  Underground.  That is the best condition for them.  I wrap my plastic clear cups in foil to simulate darkness, and that works well.

Luck to you!

Funny you wrote that! I was going to do the same today. I noticed a similar situation with 2 of my cuttings, they had 3-4 leaves for quite a long time and were looking good. Then, all of a sudden, collapsed :(
I removed the cuttings from the cups to see what happened and discovered no roots!  They were there from the very beginning, I was experimenting with different rooting methods.

Keep them in the dark, cup in a cup, paper bags, foil, works for me, now if I could just cure the infant mortality thing when up potting.

Greenfig do you think yours are dead now?     I hope its not too late for me to wrap those cups.

I put the cuttings into the peat moss container. They still look well to me and I think given some time, they might recover. Given, some energy was lost to leaves, but we will never know unless we try! Right?

I'll update on the progress in a week or so.

Right! tomorrow I'm doing the fig shuffle again and put the clear cups into dark tubs. They're in clear tubs now. double bad ...wow its pouring, I'll be treading water soon with my tubs of figlettes
