Is this a Kadota?

Not sure where I got my cuttings of this Kadota originally. As you see it has a bright red center. comparing that to Kadota photos, it does look different.

Looks like mine.

Doesnt look like mine. I have an amber, not red interior.

Jose, The Kadota i've seen in pictures looks looks similar to yours. I'm not sure if I got mine from Jon at some point.
Mine is very red. It tastes good.

My Kadota came from EL.
[Edit: fruit is rather roundish, with a flat top.]
Skin is yellow/green and pulp is amber (no red).

It looks like a great fig (yours bass), just not like any Kadota I have seen.

los luna's looks more like a Golden Celeste, in my book.

Bass, doubt your's was from me.

The breba from my kadaota are shown above. The main crop looks round and is very large.

Main crop White Kadota, 2009 season.

My Kadota came from UCD. It looked more like Jon's and Bass'. Sorry I don't have a picture. Only one has ripened so far and I ate it. It was large, 100 gr., the perfect fig, blemish free green/yelow skin. A little more roundish, red interior. very good tasting. A keeper for me. Delicious.

C'moan now Peg,

The last thing on your mind when that fig got ripe was a camera HEHE

Glad you got to enjoy it!

Cecil,
LOL, you're so right! I kept it overnight to show it off. In the morning it was ozing honey....so I ate it!

And I say
Way to go Peg!

The Kadota from UCD (DFIC0066) is called "Kadota 1".
I wonder why/what the "1" in the name means?

gorgi, I think I had some fruit on my Kadota 1, this year, so will have to check the pix.

See http://figs4fun.com/Info/Info_Kadota.html which seems to describe Kadota as having amber flesh, by most resources.

USDA/UC Davis site doesn't give much help on the name and origin. See http://figs4fun.com/Info/USDA_Accession_Kadota.pdf

Me too have a 2008 UCD.66 (K1) rooting. I was not sure why
I got it in the first place! Now I am happy I did, and look
forward for it to fruit sometime in 2010/11 too see any diff...

Here are the Kadota 1 pix. It was a little spoiled, but looks nothing like my White Kadota.

Today I discovered the 2nd. ripe Kadota, UCD DFiC 66-1, on the same tree. It was very different from the first one in appearance but the taste was the same, very good.

It was medium to small in size, pryiform, green/yellow skin, light amber flesh, tough skin.

Figs never cease to surprise me!

Peg

This is what my white kadota looks like.

My head is pretty cluttered right now, but I was chatting with Bass earlier this week and comparing leaf shapes, etc. and thought that what was being shown on Jon's site didn't seem right.  I forget what I was comparing it to at the time, though.  I remember I was looking at Dotatto at the same time, though.

Okay, my memory is coming back a little bit at a time....

I was looking at the one and only post by this member who seems to be a credible source of information on Kadota since his father farmed this variety in Fresno for market and Steve posted photos of his back yard Kadota that he continues growing.  He's got an external link to his photos at SmugMug.  There's only one leaf photo at http://figs4fun.com/Var_K_info.html#KADOTA and it seems to have greater serrations (or whatever you call it).

According to the California Fig Advisory board at http://www.californiafigs.com/index.php?page=2 they say

Quote:
Fresh Kadota Figs are available June to October.
They have a creamy amber color when ripe with a light delicate flavor.

That is consistent with photo from this commercial grower http://jmarchinifarms.com/products/kadota-figs.html (I am a little familiar with this large farming operation, having visited their place with some of my co-workers where I worked before I retired from agricultural lending.  I don't think they would be growing the wrong fig with their scale of operation.)

This would seem to indicate that the figs with the red centers are some other good fig. :)

If you want to read alla about the kadota, there's a book on it. Called The kadota Fig. You can read it here http://ia700307.us.archive.org/13/items/kadotafigtreatis00clarrich/kadotafigtreatis00clarrich_bw.pdf
