Is This An Atreano???

This is my Atreano I bought from Rolling River Nursery this spring. The tree is over 7' tall now. The leaves look right, but the figs are huge, non splitting, non souring and are still very sweet even with our cooler weather(mid to low 50's). Does this look like anyone else's Atreano? Thanks.

Tim, I haven't a clue as to weather it is or not, but it is one great looking fig and if it's ripening in this cooler weather and tasting good, then that great.

Hi Gene, thanks-----they just don't look like the Atreano on Jon's Varietal page. I'm sure they'll probably look different as the tree matures. The first ones I got back in August had amber pulp, but now they are showing some Pink/Red.

I don't have the Real Atreano (OR) pix done yet, but they are definitely different than the Rolling Riber (RR) ones that you can see at http://figs4fun.com/Thumbnail_Atreano.html

See http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3615801&highlight=atreano  The two Atreano are the small light green figs above the large one and the one immediately to the right.

The leaves match, here is mine, a true hanc mathes atreano:

Jon & Jose, thank you for your help. So, what I'm understanding from this is that there are two strains of Atreano? The original being smaller & amber pulped and the RR strain being larger & pink/red pulp? Did I understand it right?

Or that there are two different figs going by the same name. The small, amber pulped variety is the original and correct variety, as I understand it from the fellow I received it from, who has a pretty good handle on its history and origin.

Thanks Jon, I got it now. Seems the more I try to learn, the more confusing it gets!LOL

At any rate,I have a fig that I like.

Hey Gang, Hanc's atreano was given to me as an air layer by a good friend on the forum, but it died soon after I potted it up. Since then, I bought an atreano from Rolling River and this summer it produced excellent figs. Rating an 8 out of 10. This variety is a keeper in my back yard.

Anthony, how was the growth on your tree?I checked again with several reputable nurseries(Rolling River, One Green World, and Burnt Ridge) and they all describe their Atreano  as dwarf and Pink Pulp. They must all sell the same strain. My question is about it being dwarf. Mine grew over 7' tall in one season.Doesn't seem dwarf to me!

Zaino's Garden Center, Westbury, NY    (516-333-7097) is selling "Atreano-Gold" trees.  These trees are said to be from original Belleclare cuttings.

I bought my trees in 2007.  Love the figs, trees are easy, and vigorous....very prolific, no disease, or problems.   Last two years, exposed to NYC winters with no protection...no die-back, or damage. The trees are grown in large, 20 gallon containers.  Very large, sweet, sticky, golden-yellow figs...if they are still green, they are not yet ripe.  Let them hang a few days past green stage, and limit water at the roots as figs go yellow.

Happy growing.

Frank

I bought my Atreano from them last year, so I hope it is too.
