Is this Binello? Something Else?

I have had this fig for a long time.  Got it from R. Cantor.  It was in a container until we moved here 3 years ago.  A lot of tags got lost in the move.

We planted it, and it grew just fine until rats decided to use it for nests by eating all it's branches.  Sigh.  So it is now caged and for the first year giving us fruit.

The fruit are black outside and rather small.

I hope these were ripe enough.  They were soft, and I wanted to get a few before the critters do.

The skin is thin and not tough like VDB.  The flavor was rich, sweet, hit of berry with a tang on the finish, and a nice crunch.  The flavor is pretty complex.  The leaves are not huge, and I don't think the tree will be huge either.  The leaves are stiff and rough.

I like this fig, or maybe it likes this climate.  It's very healthy and does not wilt in the heat like VDB.

So is this Binello?Save

Leaf/fruit looks like a Mt Etna type.

No Binello,that is a fact.
Mt Etna type most likely Gino's fig.

Interesting.  Never had Gino's fig on my list, so no clue how I got it.  I did think it was Binello because that is one of the lost tag varieties.  I guess it's not.

Gino's fig is really good here in Southern California!!

No, it's not Binello. It could be Don Fortis or Owensboro. I'd say Owensboro. My Ownesboro figs are ripening now and they look exactly like yours....leaves and all. It has a sweet berry flavor too. So, I'd say it Owensboro.

Well, it's not one I can truthfully share cuttings of since nobody really knows.

Another it might be is Vernino?
