Is this Breba?

I know Brebas form on last years wood, main crop on this seasons growth.

MBVS rooted last spring.

This is a little tricky for me.  What's your opinion? Don's phone 2 005.jpg  Don's phone 2 006.jpg

You have to look at where the stem came from - brown wood or new green growth.  I can't see that in the photo.

I would venture a guess here and say it's a breba, looks like it's forming from old growth, plus this year's growth doesnt look old enough to support a new fig. So, breba.

Yep, its a breba.

Is it possible that these are some late main crop figs from last year that didn't swell and ripen last year?

Pino,

No, I pour over them like some Tiger mom.  They weren't there before few days ago.

I see now the fig stem is coming from brown, previous years wood, not the green new growth.  Time to get new glasses.

Having the time of the year in mind and the location of the fig leads me to believe it is a Breba.
Even in our climate, which is in steady mid 80's, the Main crop is not seen in that size, yet Breba crops are already an inch or bigger in size.
Beautiful pictures Don.

Hi,
If the tree is in ground, this is a breba for sure .
Since you're in Zone8 and the tree is young rooted, and if you had a mild winter, this could be an intermediate crop :) .
Last weekend, I saw brebas popping on a "Goutte d'or" on trees that are in ground in Zone7 and those trees were cleaned for the winter - So no remaining leftover fig.

Looks like a breba.  Main crop grows directly above a leaf.
