How big is the entire airlayer?. If the branch is too big the leaves will wilt and fall off Some of the wood could die as well nice roots tho.

Yeah,you'd have to show what those roots are supporting,ie,the branch being removed.

I agree with the comments/questions on the over-all size of the AL. The size of that branch looks a little large from those roots. For and AL; when in doubt leave on a little longer and you'll have better success.

I had success in air layering a fig tree ,after removing it from the mother tree in the first week all the leafs turned yellow and dropped .is it dead or should I wait for new growth .its August here in Los Angeles
