Not far off from summer. Fig is a white Genoa bought from bunnings a few days ago at bunnings (Australia) it was in a 10 inch pot so i think its an advanced tree
I think in the first image no and the second, maybe...Tough to say from the angle...(I may be wrong) I went through this earlier in the year. It's very deceiving how they come out all round like that but you can tell by the colour difference. When I finally got my first fig it was a solid colour and distinctly fig shaped, with depressed eye and all...If you image google "fig bud" you'll see what I mean. It was by pinching that I finally got my first fig to pop. Now I'm pinching as much as I can.
Probably, at least a couple of the nodes appear to have 2 bumps. That would most likely be a growth bud and a fig, sometimes it is 2 figs but not usually. Until they get the size of a pencil eraser you can't really count them because sometimes they get about as big as yours and eventually dry up and fall off. Good luck!
thanks for your response. There are definitely shoots with 2 swollen buds side by side. I have seen two figs side by side on my pink Jerusalem but never 2 growth buds growing side by side. I have had to pinch to get figs to branch as mine never branch by themselves and when i did, it was always one bud on that leaf axil swells and develops into a growth bud.
Hi,Time to pot that thing up !Let her grow and you shall know later on if they turn out to be a new stem or a fruit. For me, first pic, both are figlets (round and sphere shaped buds) . Second pic, all seem to be stems (pointy buds).
I have potted her up and she's now in a 6.6 Gal container from a 2.1 gal container. I have given it some seeweed extract to minimize shock so hopefully i will see some new growth within a week or so :)
Please follow up with the results as the buds develop. I want to assess my early detection skills. jdsfrance has a lot of experience on me so you'd want to defer to his experience over mine...Good luck and let us know what grows out of those twigs...
Sure. i'll update on what those swollen buds turn out to be. i hope its figs!
a little update on the fig treenot sure if you can pick it up on the photo but the green "sheathing" is peeling off and revealing something dull green and round below.
To me the shape colours still suggest shoots rather than figs. But I'm not as expert as many others here. Please keep posting pics. Curious to know what grows there ....
A little update. i counted 5 figs. there are many other buds but i'd have to wait until next week to see what they turn out to be.
My only worthwhile advice here. Pinch! Any buds where you have no figs. That's how I pushed my first fig out...
i absolutely agree. My white adriatic has since started to push figs after i pinched. I was only expecting new growth and i got that as well as some figs. Win-Win.
