Ok I have been keeping a close eye on the Bronze Paradiso plant I brought home I had left one small fig from last season it was the size of a dime 3 weeks ago it is now the size of a quarter is this normal? It is still about half the size of the Breba on the plant wich are all above this fig the shape of this fig is different than the Brebas and has the same shape as my last main crop figs wich had a different colour and shape. Anyone ever notice this before on leftover figs? Its the Fig on the bottom that im talking about, these pics were taken last week I will buy a camera tomorrow and take new pics so you guys see im not making this up.
This is normal, so nothing to worry !
I've had this happen, too, but they have always fallen off before ripening.
Nelson, 2 seasons ago I was so happy to see figs ripening in my patio room during the months of April & May. Well to my disappointment they tasted bland. I suppose they need higher heat units to bring out the flavor & sweetness. Hence on plants that have small figs in my patio room, I pinched them off and go for the main crop.
Thanks guys I thought leftover main crop figs would do nothing once the plant went dormant im guessing the odds of it ripening are slim. Paully I have a feeling if these brebas do ripen inside my condo they will be bland but once it warms up I will put the plant in my Balcony and hopefully eat some main crop figs. Good thing theres only 4 brebas on this plant two already fell off over the weekend they are pretty big though.
well, i can tell you this: if you leave main crop figs on the tree through freezing cold, etc., they will rot :) i just pulled about 20 figs off my in-ground tree and they were pretty nasty.indoors is another story, though.
Hi Nelson, whats the coldest temperatures your plant saw this winter.Although the plant does not have leaves because they sense less light late season they naturally yellow and start to drop but if plant does not get cold enough the bottom part (roots) its not really dormant actually. A fig itself would probably grow under these conditions slowly perhaps even though plant has not leaves. Some folks take in there trees late in season when they drop most their leaves even though outdoor temps may in low 40s high 30s but like the trees here in my area its the less sunlight that make the leaves start to turn has been what i have seen all my life. Then they go fully dormant in garage as season wanes and temps in storage drop into the 30s and lower for good. What i always do is let my trees 2 season old and up get a couple of cold blasts in the mid to high 20s until then there outdoors, afterwards there snoring good in the garage. The young ones a season old or newly grown that season sometimes are stubborn like a teenager who walks around outdoors in the cold with no jacket on and does not really feel it , those i take in when temps are in the mid 30s a couple of times and eventually they go dormant cause they just dont know when to stop growing and too cold of temps will hurt them suddenly and then its usually to late to recover. Just as when that bragging teen gets to far from the house and then starts to actually feel "darn i should have worn a jacket instead of trying to look cool. I remember those times many many seasons past.Best HealthMartin
Hey Martin, I had the plant outdoors in my parents patio until first week of December it had started to loosed its leaves at the end of October but kept it outside. It got hit with -10 celcius quite a few days before bringing it to my work and here it was usually around 20-30 degrees fh. But we had 3 weeks in January that the temps were in the mid 50s wich woke up the tree. This tree is in its 3rd or 4th season now I dont even remember what Dusan said when he gave it to me I believe it was in its third season last season. But as you can see on the picture allot of last seasons growth did not even harden yet.
Those FH temps in 20s and 30s would make it go dormant good indeed. If you dont mind im curious if it will ripen or fall eventually and how compares in taste to the others , please let us know in future. Its all fun for me. ; )
Martin I will let everyone know I doubt if it ripens it will taste good since its indoors and does not get allot of direct sun but none the less I am hoping it will ripen even if its bland.
