I got this variety as a cutting from a generous forum member.  He said it was "Lebanese Red" but wasnt sure if it is the Lebanese Red from Bass or the one from Marius which is now called "Red Lebanese (Bekaa)".  He said he got it as a cutting from someone named "Rich" at a fig event that was hosted at Tim Drag's place in NJ in the summer of 2013. A few weeks ago I brought a couple figs for Bass to try (and we compared to his LR) and clearly it is not the LR from Bass.  So if anyone out there is growing the Red Lebanese (Bekaa) from Marius could you let me know whether you think this is it?  Or if you are the "Rich" that has this variety could you chime in?  It has been one of my better figs this year and I would like to get a positive identification.  Thanks.

That looks very much like my red Lebanese from Marius, too. I really like this fig and has been consistently good ( even with the recent rain) very sweet and rich. I think Marius had a yellow Lebanese and red Lebanese, both from Bekaa Valley. I think there was confusion on it from another thread awhile back, but Bass' is Lebanese red and Marius' is red Lebanese. Very different flavored varieties, but both very good. I'll post some pics later when I'm home.

The leaves and fruit you posted the photos of, look like my Mt Etna figs very much.
Is that Lebanese another Mt Etna type fig?

Igor, I am also growing MvsB, SalsEL and Takoma Violet.  There are some similarities but the Red Lebanese (?) figs are a bit larger and don't typically have the longish necks that the Mt. Etna types have.  The flavor is richer too.

I see. I also have those 3 and found that the size and flavor differ dramatically between the ground and potted trees. The same MBVS in the ground produced about 30% larger fruit, and much juicier.
That Lebanese fig has been on and off my wish list for a while now and looking at your fruit I think I would decide to boot it.
Too many similar figs already.

   Your tree is Bekka valley strain. The leaves and fruits look very similar to the one I have. I got my tree through a forum member that sourced his from Marius. Here is a thread with my pictures. Look at post #1.

Igor, the Mt. Etna's that I'm comparing it to are growing in the ground while the presumed Red Lebanese is in a container.  For me, in terms of flavor, it is a superior fig but the Mt. Etnas are hard to beat in other areas.

Mohan, thanks for the confirmation.  Do you know anything about the cold hardiness of Red Lebanese (Bekaa)?

Steve, This is my first year of figs. I have the tree in a 25 gallon SIP. I will be bringing these trees into my unheated garage if the temps dip below 30 Farenheit. I will probably try to put a few trees next spring for the ones I will have a back up, incase I loose them.
