Ischia Black 2012

This year the Ischia Black is sticks with leaves and at least figs on the ends but nothing inbetween.  The leaves were larger last year.  I currently seeing if that broken branch I ended up removing will root in moss.  The branches are also thin.

Tom may i ask is this Jons , UcDavis, R.Watts etc.
As a note R.Watts plant came to him as a Provence which he calls Ischia.

those leaves looks about as bad as my Calvert from UCD. tho, 3 month old Calverts are putting on the figs.

Tom i looked more at your tree and it has a nice canopy shape.

Seems like it grew well for you and looks healthy in regards to most other type ischia's.

If it were mine i would when fully dormant snip the tips on the canopy some and next season airlayer yourself a spare from that lower side branch but leave some branch remaining so it will grow new shoots.

By snipping here and there on delicate tree it will fatten those limbs and main up some along with getting more bushy in time by awakening some more nodes a little lower.

Do you think its OK to start an air layer with the heat that is predicted in the 90's for the next 7 days here in MA?  I've been meaning to do more since I had success with the Negronne EL.

I'm not good at record keeping.  I do remember I had cuttings from UCD and Encanto farms and I think one of each made it but I don't know which is which.  I have two Ischia Black.  One was a stronger grower than the other.

Tom if it were mine i would wait till next season. But i dont know your climate just mine.

Here is my 8 years old plant,UCD Ischia Black.
This year it has some figs so I can reevaluate it again as to the taste and flavor.
It is 16 inches tall and it fruited this well the second time .last time was 4 years ago.
This specimen, is not a plant to grow for production, but only for ID purposes in order to compare a new found healthy specimen against this one,so I have something to compare to.
I am sure there are hundreds of Ischia Black ,that grow as unknown ,in the US,because such a quality cultivar must have been smuggled many times ,from Europe.
The  difficulty is finding a healthy tree,so in that regard the UCD Specimen is good for reference.
Here is the pix and you can save it in your documents, like reference.
Pix taken today.

I believe there were 6 of us who were able to buy that plant this season.

Now i decided to look for others also.
