I was at Walmart yestrday in Canton, Georgia and spotted some absolutely beautiful fig trees. The label said Ischia but did not specify green or black. They were a good 20" tall, loaded with fruit and very fresh lush, healthy plants.
I did not buy one and now am kicking myself, beause I wanted to research the variety and was unsure whether they would thrive at my higher elevation which put me in zone 7a. Because of extreme winds, and freak storms, etc. I usually plant as if I am in zone 6b.
QUESTIONS:
1. FLAVOR/QUALITY - Am I correct in assume that Green Ischia is the more common variety? If it is either green or black it is a good fig?
2. HARDINESS - will Ischias require special protection in zones 6b/7a or planting in a container and moving into a sheltered area in winter?
