Ischia figs at Walmart - should I get one?

I was at Walmart yestrday in Canton, Georgia and spotted some absolutely beautiful fig trees. The label said Ischia but did not specify green or black. They were a good 20" tall, loaded with fruit and very fresh lush, healthy plants.
I did not buy one and now am kicking myself, beause I wanted to research the variety and was unsure whether they would thrive at my higher elevation which put me in zone 7a. Because of extreme winds, and freak storms, etc. I usually plant as if I am in zone 6b.

QUESTIONS:
1. FLAVOR/QUALITY - Am I correct in assume that Green Ischia is the more common variety? If it is either green or black it is a good fig?
2. HARDINESS - will Ischias require special protection in zones 6b/7a or planting in a container and moving into a sheltered area in winter?

Most big box stores carry varieties suitable for your zone so it should do well... If anything you can always use it for grafting later on if you're not happy with it... I have 2 Kadotas that I bought at different stores and they are different in taste, both good though, they do well in my area is the point...

I bought one at a big box store in Florida a couple years ago labeled as Ischia Fig and it turned out to be something identical to White Marseilles.

Elfarch, unfortunately Canton is 30+ miles south and at least 1,000 foot elevation below me, so I can not go by "the stores stock what is appropriate for your zone" concept.

Tylerj, was White Marseille any good?

Yes its a nice honey type fig. The one you saw might be an actual Ischia type fig though I just wanted to point out there is a chance it isn't.

I also purchased and Ischia fig from Walmart about 4 years ago that turned out to be a White Marseilles.  The pot showed it came from a Florida nursery.

Similar situation- Never had a White Marseilles but my Walmart "Green Ischia" has some very "Adriatic" looking leaves but with a light amber interior.

Who knows what it'll turn into?

What was the price ? Up to 20 bucks ... Drive your car back to the shop...

Is it a single trunk or multiple trunk?  I bought a lot of these "Ischia" trees last year and they are all multiple trunk/bushy.  I also have Green Ischia (Verte) and hopefully I will have figs on the "Ischia" to compare.  I paid $3.00 each for 43 trees and at that price I don't care what they are as long as they produce.

Ischia from dewars = agristarts = Tisue Culture

Will not be a true ischia too many lobes...I paid 5.77 with tax at Lowe's at end of fall 2015 season. I was bumed at first...but the price was too good to return. :)

i bought a fat one at walmart right off the delivery cart    show picture of green ischia     will it be or won't it be     we will see  but at 7.98    i didnt care   :)

They have Green Ischia for 16.95 close to my area.  I didn't scoop any up but hope to soon.
