It is winter here

Your right Rafed i must show restraint and no weakness.

Showing Restraint -
Last growing season i showed restraint Rafed as our growing season was actually warmer than in Paradise but did not rub it in to you know who.  ; )

Showing No Weakness
Old man winter petered out and only gave us 2 inches of fresh snow
gezzz whats up with that ?
Not even worth shoveling it.

That's what I'm talking about Martin!

Currently NJ is being down-poured with (liquid-water) rain.

I hope that most of all those snow/ice mountains  that
had been accumulating since boxing day (12/26/2010),
will melt away - and hopefully will not create a flooding issue.

Yeah, finally spring is in the air.
I have heard some of our local Red Cardinal birds
(on some brief bright day hours) singing a welcomed song,
doing their territory-claiming and/or attracting-female-love songs...

That's the spirit Martin! 2" of snow isn't even worth a second look.

We got in excess of 5" of rain in W KY yesterday. The main entrance to my road was flooded with at least 4' of fast flowing water from the rising creek. I would have just swam accross like I usually do but I needed the car to get to town. That was just fine though since I really wanted drive the extra 5 miles to get out the back way - aka the scenic route!

Hi Martin
What did your groundhog said about the coming spring?
Here is what our groundhog said what to expect when bringing our fig plants outside in the open if we choose to do so:

Hi Akram,
they cancelled ity here because of the heavy snow we had receievd at the time.
The one in Penn predicted a early spring, i dont follow that though but its fun .

Snow is melted here with temps hitting into mid 30s. We had good thunderstorm recently and i collected some rain water for indoor cuttings.
Last season i started the fig shuffle onto drive way mid March, i still have to root prune some of them.

No cracking buds as of yet on any of them there snoring real good still except my Maderia which is cardboard sleeved with a top on it as im being more careful with it come spring not to have 3/4 of it die back like last season and not get figs from it.

I also plant to go into attic sometime this weekend to check on the little ones.

Spring is coming though.
Eventually  ; )

My winterhardest Figs are Baldurs Unknown, Kunduz, Jerusalem, Gigant, violette Pfälzer, Pauls Frostkönigin...

The view out my front window this past Sunday....Sigh

[snow2]

Toronto is a nice Place for extremly winterhard Figs. From the cold Pamir Mountains in the Sun from Canada.

It actually hasn't been the worst winter. Nothing like 3 and 3 years ago..... I did though acquire some warmer climate fig varieties recently so I'll be needing to get creative to stretch my season....

Don't worry, Spring is at the corner, Our area is warm up quickly, all snow melted, Just check my garden, 4 in ground fig trees are molded and dead, $100CA is gone.

I'm actually a bit worried. It's -8°C at the moment with Saturday forecasted to be 11°C.

What's with that?

I do not think that winter is finish in your area but not too far away from Spring.

It was cold here last week with 1 feet snow here, this week, all snows melted and we are at near 10C,

My little toothpick cutting is wake up and ready for 2017 growing in bigger pot.

Of course, it is not safe to leave trees outdoor for now, I lightly water/fertilizer all potted fig trees, clear out top layer of soils for all in ground fig trees and add a layer of sand.

view off my front porch just minutes ago. Plum in full bloom.

I love South Carolina!
Freeze will probably roll through and wipe it all out but I hope not.
Maximum zoom on my tablet....so it looks much closer than it is.
edit without zoom

Doug

That's a beautiful space you have.... I hope that doesn't freeze over on you...

Me too Joe.
Thanks on my space, the house is located on the top corner of my property
leaving the 2.31 acres beside and behind our home. Gives me room to play.
It used to be a wooded lot.....trees everywhere.
The future forecasting looks like I might make it just fine.

Doug
