Italian 258

Another first for me. This one is filled with honey and has a different taste than my others. I will have to eat some more to put my finger on it. We gave it a 9 each. Definitely a keeper!

Those figs look beautiful. I have heard good things about this fig. Let us know what those flavor characteristics are when you figure it out!

This is one I'm interested in. I normally concentrate on French figs.

I have an unk. Salerno dark fig (now called Frank's Salerno dark unk.) brought over by a guy named Frank ( it's a long story but I thought his wife told me his name was Pete aka (Dago Pete's Italian purple)) now renamed to Salerno dark unk.

I'm very interested in how theses two compare since they look similar

Looks so delicious.

If I had a list, this would be a definite, I have heard so many positives and actually no negatives. Before I get any of the rare figs(although I already have a few) I want make sure they are definitely right for hot, wet, humid South Florida. Thanks for the photos and info.

Art,

This is a great fig.
Congratulations

Francisco

This one is on my list, too, if I dare acquire any more . . . .

I wouldn't mind trying it myself but space restrictions are keeping me from getting more. I'll be weeding some out so there will be an empty spot soon.

That's a hint Art..............................

Art, can you compare it with Black Madeira?

Brent, If I'm lucky for my BM to ripen. I will have a ripe Preto pretty soon.

Tony, Just remind me.

Also, my I 258 is one of my fastest growers I have. My BM is like all the others. Very slow.

Art,

I moved my BM to a 20ish gallon pot and it took off!
Been a slow grower for about the first four years I've had it and now it has doubled or tripled in size in one season!

Of course pumping a little extra 20-20-20 helped too;)

Rafed,

Funny that you say that. I just put mine in a 20 gal. Thursday night.
Next year I will fertilize it more.

You did good, Art.
It will grow like a weed for you.

I started mine about five years ago or maybe longer from a single little twig I got from Jon. I was lucky as it took root and grew (slow).

Shows just a bit of FMV, not much but overall it is a beauty!

Has fruit but with this weather it's a toss up.

Here's an example of how good a grower that I 258 is. This one was rooted this winter 2013/14.
It makes that 20 gal pot look small.

Hmmm,

I don't see a tree stand. Do you do it form the kitchen window?

You know me too well. You have to look real hard.:)

Great reviews of this one Art.  Good looking tree - glad to hear it's such a vigorous grower.
They look delicious!!

Art & Rafed, if you have any of the rare varieties that have a tough time ripening in your cooler weather, then I will do both of you a favor. Send the plants down here where it is still super hot and I, in return, will send some photos when they get real ripe and I would even be willing to give detailed descriptions of each. I know, this doesn't sound like a fair exchange but I really don't mind doing all this work!

If it's in the background then odds are I'd find Waldo before I find the stand;)

Thanks for the offer, Wayne.
I'll get right to it. Just wait at the end of the street, I'll be right there;)
