Italian 258

Hello, I was wondering if any members are knowledgable of the origin of this cultivar.

                                                                      Thanks, Anthony

Very useful list Rafael!
ITA 258 sounds similar to Bifara?
Too bad no one has tried to identify the original names of these figs.

It would be difficult, but I do not think it matters. It is a great fig to have, and that is what matters. I am trying to root it right now (no good news yet, sadly).

Thank you for posting this Rafael.  Good stuff!

How are you trying to root the IT 258?

Here is the group of Italian 258 that I started 12 weeks ago, using Harvey's method. Pat Shafer lives about an hour North of me, and if it is so good there, I knew I should grow it. I was a little surprised that all 8 started, even the one that is just putting out leaves that I was unsure of. It helps to start out with great cuttings, thank you Herman2! I have 3 in perlite peat mix in the humidity chamber, one of which is in bad shape. I have one in the cloner, but it has not responded and dried too much before I could wrap it in grafting tape (my cloner does not have a cover to retain humidity, very dry in my bsmt.

Those are great results, Gary!

Amazing results, last year I barely limped through the summer with 1 that pulled through later on and it is the size of your bigger ones in the picture, except it's one year old(take the short season into consideration please). Cuttings are funny, mine were from H2 as well. I also got some JH at the same time, and none of those succeeded. A couple months later I got some more JH from a different source that were cut later-on and the success rate was 80%, go figure.

Mine grow like a weed last year, from cutting to 4 foot tree in one season, yes I did feed it like crazy!!!!!!

Hi everyone, and thank you for the nice comments. I need to amend my description a bit. I got 5 cuttings from Herman, and 2 were from Dan Foster. I was able to cut 1 in half from Herman, giving me 8 to start. All are rooted and growing now. Thank you Herman2 and Dan.
