Italian Everbearing

I planted two trees in Feb. 2016 in the full sun here in Orlando,Fl., U.S.A. They didn't do too well, so I asked for replacement trees to be sent. The rainy season finally came and they started to do better. Hurricane Matthew came in Oct. and most of the leaves on the taller one came off. Now the taller one has about 25 figs on it and I have eaten about 4.
I took one out of the ground and put it in a pot on my patio and it is doing better than the 2 in the ground.
What I would like to have help with is this,
1. Is it better to grow Italian Everbearing in the ground or in a pot on my patio?
2. When, how, and how much should I cut back the ones in the ground?
3. How tall should I let them get?

Where did you purchase the trees if you don't mind me asking?

The heights of the tree is easily controlled by you. I'm 6'2" tall. I let my trees get 8 feet because that's as high as I can reach without a ladder.

Normally trees do better in the ground but it really depends on the cultivar. Is it better in a container, it depends. Your soil was obviously the issue or too much water. I would check the soil pH and try again.

Cutting a fig back really depends on how much is grew that year. If you want brebas, watch what you cut because you could destroy your breba crop.

Good luck!
