http://snapguide.com/guides/make-charming-italian-figs-in-red-wine/

I wanted to share this cause of great illustrations...

Eli,

Excellent use of figs.

Have a similar sort of dessert not with dry figs...but with pears! 'PERA BEBEDA' -(DRUNKEN PEARS)
and it is good!
Will try with dry figs now and see what is better.

Pears in wine are a classic desert  ...

I very much look forward to making some great desserts with figs.  Thanks for the link!

pear in wine is good. i think i'll try this, if the weather gets better and i get my figs. tho, i would have been nice if there was information on how much of everything should be used.

Being Italian, I am no stranger to this type of recipe.

When I was a kid, every Summer we kept a big pitcher, filled with sliced peaches soaking in red, homemade wine, in the refrig.  After dinner my dad would dish out some of the ice-cold, peaches, and we'd eat them while sitting around the "giant", 19" screen, black and white, TV.  Who could afford a color TV?  A hassock-fan - (look them up to see what they were like) - provided the "air-conditioning" in the hot living-room/parlor.

In the old days, peaches in red wine were sold at every Italian feast in New Yawk.  Now, who knows if this delicious dessert appeals to all the multi-ethnic yuppies, and Euro-trash that populate these kind of events.

Try, fruit soaked in wine, for a cool dessert.  Enjoy.

We used to have peaches in red wine also. My Dad, aunts and uncles used to more often put oranges and /or tangerines in red wine . It was always such a delicious treat !!
