Italian film - The Orange Thief

Hello,
This is not directly related to figs, but I could not resist recommending this movie. I have hardly seen any films that feature fruit orchards, much less a fig orchard. (Anyone know of any films that include fig orchards??) This film is called The Orange Thief and a large part of it is filmed in orange orchards in Lucca Sicula in the mountains of Sicily. There are also some olive groves, etc - unfortunately no figs were noticed, but still it gave me a good feeling to see the fruit trees and beautiful scenery! It is in Italian with English subtitles. I really enjoyed the film. Here are a couple of links.

Oddly, I was given a book last year entitled:
*Stolen Figs*

which was also warm & wonderful.

As I recall, a fig tree played a key role in the movies Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring based on novels by Marcel Pagnol.  Both were excellent. They were set in Provence and featured 3 of France's greatest actors who were nominated for many international awards.

Thanks for the recommendations.  It is good to receive some film and literature recommendations.   I have been keeping my eyes peeled for films and/ or novels that take place in fig growing areas (showing orchards, harvesting, etc).   Some good YouTube videos have come along and of course the PBS documentary "The Queen Of Trees" (which was fabulous).  Not much else has been located, especially a cinematic production or novel.

It looks like Manon des Sources was originally made in 1953 and remade in 1986. Jean de Florette also was made in 1986.   I'll also take a look at the book, Stolen Figs

Here is an additional film that was mentioned a while back.    Los Higos Secos - This is a Spanish film (a 15 minute documentary).   On this site you can see a brief trailer and it looks interesting.  http://www.filmotech.com/v2/ES/FT_FichaPelicula.asp?ID=0000-0001-C8E6-0021-L-0000-0000-B  I wonder if this film can be found over here.
