Italian Purple Fig

I have a chance to get an Italian Purple fig from a local reputable nursery. Its fully leafed out and has 3 breba. However I haven't been able to get much info on it. Is this a good fig for zone 5. Upstate ny.

CiaoVince,  There are so many Italian purple fig varieties,  Wonder which you actually have.  It was likely a purple fig brought from Italy and was called italian purple,  we Italian people generally don't call anything " Italian "  we generally refer to things by the region, town, people, colors places, sizes, things like that especially with figs.  We still are very much ' regional people" I have to say, still pertaining and remaining and adoring our region first before the actual nation.  I have 5 different Italian varieties that are purple, but they are very different trees, but all italian.  maybe you could post a picture or maybe check jons website and look for a picture!!!   I hope you have good luck, but generally speaking, your fig tree should be fine where you live provided you give it the love and special attention they need to survive properly, especially in Winter.  I would recommentd to keep in a large pot so you can shift to a location it will need when the weather changes and probably actually you really should bring in the winter.  Ciao

Being in Zone 5 you have to have it potted and taken inside for winter storage in a cooler place between (say) 32F to 45F during dormancy. So you better choose by other attributes of the fig than plant hardiness because you can't leave it out in winter in your zone.
