My son brought home some cuttings a few years ago from a job he was on the tree was growing outside unprotected apparently the people weren't very interested in it as they would hack it down at the end of every year so I grew it and planted it last summer with the intentions of covering it LOL Well that didn't happen and apparently it survived the winter with minimal die back on only one or two of the limbs now I have to wait to get figs on it to see what it is ???
Very nice!
Always nice to see buds! Thanks Dave, Leon
Wow Dave. Good to see for us zone sixes and lower. We have to get an ID on that one.
Yeah DaveL I am very happy I can't tell you how many trees I tried to do this with with no success finally this looks promising Let me know at the end of the season I'll probably have some cuttings if you would like to try one in your area
Very impressive considering it is sitting in a open location. Looking forward to see some fruit photos. Good Luck Dave.
Sas I found about 3 or 4 very old fig trees growing unprotected in my area but every one I find is right tight up against the house which obviously they are getting some heat through the foundation to the roots like you said this one out in the open really surprised me being that it did that good last year I'll probably cover it with a simple plywood box with some slight ventilation and hopefully I shouldn't have a problem I don't have the heart to leave the little guy out in the cold naked again :-)
