It's all about the roots

Anyone else look with hopeful expectations at your newly potted cuttings in clear cups for the first sign of roots to the edge of the cup.

Everyday. With a magnifying glass!

Ohhhh newenglandgardener....... I've been eating up your fig videos on youtube, very informative, Thank You!!!
I look forward to the time when I can try rooting new cuttings, I'll probably be up in the middle of the night checking for new growth. hehe!!

On weekdays, every morning and every evening, on weekends x 100.

Just about every day! I think I'm going crazy. Lol!

Nice work Tom...still enjoying your videos...   :)

You and me both

At first it felt like every five minutes. Grow, damn you!

Lately, I've been so busy I almost dread seeing too many roots. Lol. I put off cupping so long, the roots barely fit in the cup.

It's still exciting though.

Yes Tom
Today I found my first root on my TX Blue Giant cutting. What a good feeling to see something grow. I looked at all your videos and enjoy every one. The Excel plant love the Texas sun. Keep up the good work and keep the videos rolling.

It's great to find out I'm not alone...lol....I'd had never admitted it, if you hadn't said so first Tom.

Tom, what is that black container you use to mix up your soil?

I think they're used to mix concrete, Home Depot carries them

Thats exactly what they are, the come in handy for a multitude of gardening tasks :o)

I need to get one one. I'm using a large mixing bowl and it just isn't big enough. Messy.

Granted I'm not mixing large scale, just enough for about  3-5 cups at a time.

For cup mix I like to reuse a plastic grocery bag. Check for holes(very important), add my ingredients, add water, twist top shut and hold bottom with other hand, then shake baby shake.

For trees, use a tarp. Place ingredients on tarp, pick up one end, walk forward, lay tarp back down, walk to other side of tarp, pick up and repeat, repeat,....

Those links helped, thanks KK. My google-fu is pretty good but "containers to mix soil" and other variants was coming up with nil. Went to Lowes and picked one in the concrete section!

Its is used for mixing concrete.  You can get them at HD in the concrete section.  For some reason I didn't get the last questions emailed to me?

No worries Tom - everyone jumped in to help ;)

I got a used 40 gal pot for $2 and use that.  Walmart, big lots and similar stores have 18-20 gal tubs for ~$5 - much cheaper and more than tough enough.
