It's in the record books...

The coolest summer in 85 years! Actually I loved it. Most days were never over 85, just warm enough to be comfortable and little to no humidity.

I loved it too, but the figs are not happy - most still not ripe. Jujubes are ripening, but very short on sweetness and flavor. Banana growth was maybe 1/3 of normal. I know I have never seen a summer like this in my lifetime.

Jon, I'm probably way ahead of your season due to our heat. My jujubes started ripening 2 weeks ago. The Black Madeira was ripe about two weeks ago as well. My bananas grew 10' tall. My pawpaw are 3 weeks earlier than usual.

I will take San Diego winter over my winter anytime.

I guess it all depends on where you be, whether it was a hot one or a cool one.

I'm with you, Bass. We'll be back to normal summer next year, but the east coast will still have winter.

Jujubes and Black Madeira started ripening about 2 weeks ago, here, as well. The BMs are fine, but the jujubes aren't worth picking.

Well summer has finally arrived! It'a been over 100 the last 3 days. Today is 108 and 12% humidity. It's a good day to be at work in the air conditioned office! ;-) Yes, I watered my figs this morning and all my other plants too.

Late September 2010...

>> Well summer has finally arrived!

I have heard that [p/o] California is sure/slowly drifting towards Alaska,
or was it towards down-under Aussie land?!

Gorgi,

Give it a couple more weeks as the temps start to drop here in the north and the Big Boss starts throwing darts at us.
You know who I'm talking about?

We just had the coolest summer since Herbert Hoover, and today they had the hottest temperature ever recorded in Los Angeles for any date, in any year, since they began keeping records, 113F.

We were 102 today, though other areas were hotter.

Figs that did weren't interested in ripening, were suddenly cooked on the tree.

Its 45 out here as i type this.

Jon,
You were 'cool' being close to the ocean. I'm in the 'inland' temp range. Ramona hit a high of 111 yesterday. Ugg, glad I was at work.
Sue

Sue,

That's too hot!
Even Yuma, Az. was cooler than your place.
