It is may and I just started getting the first of my rooted cuttings into containers, some cuttings have yet to root, and I still do not have all my cuttings started.  I have been waiting to start what is still in the fridge with my UCD/USDA order (hopefully I'll get them this week).  This is very late for me.  Normally, I have all my cuttings rooted and in containers by the beginning of April.

I know I'm not the only one waiting on USDA, but Is anybody else running this late?

I'm all over the place. One variety from UCD still in bag, some in cups, some in delicontainers, 2qt, and gallon. But not late.

  I'm not waiting on UCD/USDA, but I only just got my cuttings into the rooting bins over the last three weekends.  I intentionally didn't root over the winter...but then I got delayed/sidetracked and didn't get them in earlier.  My plan/hope is that they'll start rooting and I'll pot them up directly to 1-Gal containers and outside they'll go.  Actually, I did a quick check last night and found roots on 3 of the cuttings that I put into bins 3 weeks ago, so I'll be potting some up this weekend.
  Conversely, many of my containerized trees broke dormancy very early this year, so I've had fig trees in south-facing windows since January...and some from December.  I've already got lots of growth and a fair number of breba going and also main-crop figs forming on this year's growth!  They aren't even outside yet!

USDA/UCD cuttings came rather late this yr. about a month late. only two figs this yr. rest are mulberries and others.

Hi James, I'm in the same boat. I decided not to rush things like years before and end up with a bunch of small plants to babysit and fight off the fungus gnats. I did an experimental rooting of some of my Cajun Gold to see if this method would work. Six out of eight rooted and are now small plants on the outside and looking good. Since it worked out well, I have now started the rest of my cutting and none have yet put out roots. One small batch of 6 in a container all to themselves and a little warmer, have started to sprout buds and leaves. Hopefully roots will appear soon before I'm forced to cup them up. With figs, 3 months before winter you still are not toooooo late . So you're not late.

Last year I removed 2 root shoots from my Dalmatie tree1 beginning of September.
I threw them in an 80liters trashcan full of compost+dirt. Last Saturday, one had already 3 true leaves, the other one had 2 buds with 2 leaves .
No babysitting, no gnats,  no dirt at home ... and they made it - but those were cuttings from my trees so I chose the best timing for that ...
Of course I'm not expecting to have fruits from them this year ...
The only thing getting me crazy is looking at some brebas turn yellow ... Man that kills me ! But ok, it is not the appropriate time for looking already at the results ... Harvests are still to come in some 2,3 months,
so don't panic ... But plant those cuttings in your 8b location, in the 5b it is perhaps toooooo soon even now !

I got my UC Davis order but it was only last week. I didn't start fig cuttings early because I wanted to start them outside and avoid the humidity bins. I am probably going to continue starting them all summer this year and get them into 1 gallons and wait to do more until next year.

I have 4 more 1 year old trees needing to go into SIPs, which should be complete this weekend.  A few rooting in clear cups.  Nothing intense like last year.  The camper shell on my truck makes for a nice humidity bin.
