Its Time

No clouds full sun today current temp 62, all small plants that were under grow light are outside now on nice warm cement patio and up against brick wall in full sunshine. Even brought 2 santa cruz newly rooted from last month out there with the rest. By low sun they all come back in under grow light again and i do the same tomorrow as it will be sunny again but little warmer and 70.

My large tree which have been only out on driveway maybe 5 to 7 times so far will spend the night outdoors (first time) as temps will get down to about 36 or so they have no leaves but some buds are cracking open for a peak of spring. While other buds that are here and there are shedding brown outer casing to show nice green inside. This weekend weather will change and be only 53 or so , i decide what i will do then, then long term forcast they now say is going to be warmer for later part of next week.
Finally the large trees will get going now.
The small grow light one's for now get a breath of fresh air and much needed warm bottoms!

I'll be very careful.
Leaved young plants from under inside-lights need to be hardened off.
Usually for a week (or two) in the shade (or semi-shade) and protected from strong winds.
Going directly outside under full-sunshine will cause sunburn (UV - not the heat) and fry the leaves.

Gorgi,
yes that crossed my mind, i watch them each hour for leaves to wilt . Now 5 o' clock here they been out good 5 hours in full sun and they like it the leaves are more erect! Today is good day no wind and there up against North wall and face south.
Last check the outdoor temp was 65 but cement and brick wall very warm, tomorrow will be a little warmer hooray.
But i watch them tomorrow as well along with the water needs.
The santa cruz which are real tender only 5 weeks old (recieved from UcDavis MARCH 12TH)  i tell you are some strong plants i thought if anything they would not like full sun being kinda just rooted but go figure a plant im not real crazy about since main crop needs fig wasp turns out to root nice and seems strong of a plant , so i give it a chance and see what happens with it in a couple years if i dont kill it first, but i doubt i will with this one now after watching the way its growing, i should say it has FMV as some leaves are deformed real bad in shape but its putting on growth nicely.

It is not the heat/water/wilt.
It is the Ultra Violet (UV) that will scorch the young leaves.
The leaf top side will first turn silvery green (too late), and then later browns and dies.
Imagine a first sunbathing on the beach after a winter in the house.

This  does not apply  to un-leaved figs from the garage.

Gorgi,

Which grow lights are you using?  I have several fig trees which I have had under grow lights grown from cuttings and placed them outside in full sun and had no problems what so ever once they obtained a beautiful green color and roots of course.  The 6500K grow lights I have produce UV and the plants protect themselves naturally from it if they are exposed to it.  I believe it depends on the lights you use.

Watch Sunday night because it may be getting cold. Our forecast is -5C (23F) in Ottawa, probably that is measured in the open at the International Airport so in suburban areas we may get 26F~27F.

Caution to take plants inside the garage is fine but it means work. Will it freeze the new shoots if it goes down to 26F?

Gorgi,
after your last post i now understand what you mean.
Arigato post made me feel comfortable after his comments about grow light and UV . Your concern Gorgi care for what happens and i appreciate that very much!
Arigato,
yes i have a 6500k spectrum light that mimicks the afternoon sun, it is single strip which these plants have been under this past winter and has a reflector which cost of course a little more but light was 35.00 not to bad, there is another forum member that has a 4 strip light which puts out as you know a wider light for more plants to put under. I have keep mine just a few inches under the light as it is very cool to the touch as im sure you know on a timer set for 16 hours i believe, the light is 54 or 56 watts i forget. I remeber reading about the different  ( K ) Spectrums and what they do and after reading Gorgi and your post im sure glad now i did get the 6500k  one.
After the plants are outside for good this season i wont use it anymore but i just might for vegtables next year to get a little head start maybe.
So thanks to both of you for your posts as i learned something and i think this time around i did something half right.  ; )

oh here is link almost forgot and use the edit function. Thats the one i bought last season.

Ottawan,
there is chance at 26 to hurt buds, and it increases more i believe if its windy also (wind chill factors in) at 26 i would defintely bring mine in here because they have started to wake up (some buds cracking open) now albiet slowly, and have some buds that are brown but shedding that outer layer and can see green inside . In my area when they say 40 for low in chicago it usually is 5 degress or so colder by me as im further from lake which helps keeps it slightly warmer in city.
I did see it will be much cooler sunday thru monday night so i watch the weather as sometimes it changes , this time of year i have to be careful with that and the spring also seems to be windy here , in summer its hard to buy a breeze most times. Al though my trees went thru there coldest winter this particular time in attached garage  since i have had them they seem to be holding there own but i know more for sure in 2 weeks or so as i see how they awaken .
One problem tree madeira black 2 years old which i had cardboard sleeve around near house entry and up high in garage does not seem to be responding at all, also i had argentile fig very small one about 6 inches tall i protected next to maderia, that 1 i brought in at the time temps in garage drop below 20 or so and saved it. The large pots in January seemed to have frozen but not totally sure i know at least several inches down i could tell, and when i kicked pot it was hard like a rock this was first year i did not give them any water what so ever as it was just to darn cold in garage, other years always gave then a small drink once a month. First year i had thermometer and coldest temp was 6 or 8 above i forget  but coldest temp outdoors was somewhere between 21 and 24 below zero at that time and that was without factoring the windchill. I posted some pictures this winter of each tree covered with a bed sheet to help keep the cold breeze off them when overhead door would open, sure glad thats over with!!!
Sorry for long answer.
