Izbat an Naj 9-22-13

Another first year fig. Has a slightly open eye and had one to split. Very creamy, not to sweet melon, skin just a little chewy, no seed crunch. About a 7.

Looks good. Yet another to add to the ever-mutating wishlist.

Should be a #10 fig.

Marius. thanks for the encouragement. I will certainly keep it around and let it get better.

I don't know whether you could call it a great looking fig or not.  So how about another fig with promise and some great pictures Mike.

goss

Hey Goss, it is really an ugly fig on the outside, but good looking (and good) on the inside. The pic doesnt do
the inside justice. Hollier is about as ugly but it is a great tasting fig.

I don't have any new ones this morning. Just made the rounds and couldn't find any ready. Maybe this afterfnoon.
Still have about 12 varieties that have not produced a ripe fig yet.

Hey Mike,

I didn't get Izbat to root but one that I think should be awesome and I'm excited for in the future to get one as I've had similar figs in the past I've loved. The other pics I've seen of it are a bit prettier btw so there's hope in that dept too :D.

hey did your Hollier taste more like a Celeste/Brown Turkey profile or a honey fig like a Kadota?? I ask because the ones I tried tasted like a great version of Celeste/BT but I had heard it's more of a honey fig from other tasters maybe I had the wrong fig... green outside pinkish inside though looked right.

Here is another thread about this fig from a month later last year - October 26, '12 - with very appealing photos. It's a difficult fig to do a search for here because the 'an' and 'naj' are short words.

I was able to root some last winter, and I am really hoping to get some fruits next year. It should do well here in warm, dry SoCal.

Mike you'll have to let us know if your tree holds on to it's leaves longer than other trees did like it did for Marius. Maybe it was just a rare instance for him last year but it would be interesting if it did that every year. It might be like certain Maple trees around here that keep their leaves into the beginning of November while all the other trees are completely bare.

looks good. cant wait till next year so i can try this fig. thanks for the input marius

Hey Mike, It was just a weak attempt at humor.  As long as they are good I don't care what they look like or what color they are or what their parentage is.  Pedigree doesn't matter either.  Cost either.

Hope you have some more this evening I have been really enjoying the pictures and descriptions most especially since we live so close to each other.  Hopefully you are doing a real service for all the rest of us here.

thanks

Goss, I knew where you were coming from. My intentions are to provide what information I have been able to glean from my experience
that may or may not interest the forum members that live in the hot and humid south. We have our own issues to deal with that may
differ from the folks up north. I know Herman and a few others in the north provide valuable information to each other, and we should also.

Mike,
Thanks for posting the pictures and commentary.
I may not always comment but I personally appreciate the time and effort that you make to present the information.
Also, I may not be in the south, but the information is invaluable for every fig growing region.

Ditto what Pete said. Thanks.
