Jeffy Mix

Has anybody tried this product? I have used Espoma but it is pricy while this one is very affordable.

i use MG seedling soil. it's couple of more coins, but seems to work for me. used to use MG perlite too, but changed to medium horticulture perlite at local place. buying it in bulk is much cheaper. have bale of s. peat moss.. maybe i'll mix my own seedling soil...

I love it. I use it every year for seed starts and for cuttings. For seeds I add a little bit of seaweed meal and bat dookie to supply a bit of food to carry them till I start adding nutes to the water. There is a small amount of vermiculite in the mix.

For cuttings I use
2 parts perlite screened
1 part Jiffy Seed start
0.5 part Espoma vermiculite

This will work on it's own, but last year the 2nd half of my cuttings I decided that the cuttings needed a bit of food so I made a slight change. I mix the above and premoisten it. When I am ready to cup a cutting I fill the cup about 1/4 with my big tree growing medium and then top off with the above, then put another cup on top and shake to mix then use as normal. I nuke my big tree mix before hand as to not introduce anything alive. I don't premix the big tree mix into the cutting mix because even with nuking certain molds etc. will start to do their business after 2-3 weeks. I have not had ANY trouble with Jiffy being a gnat source.
