JH Adriatic and Kathleen's Black pushing main crop.

just went out during lunch break and pinched some buds. noticed that JH Adriatic and Kathleen's Black are already forming very tiny main crop. if weather holds up, i'm thinking end of july early aug for my first main crop :)

sounds wonderful.
fig shuffle is on here
and leaves just starting to open.
Looks like desert king will give me about 20 figs this year, if all goes well.

NICE!

words words words... we need pictures! ;)

no kidding aaron, talk is cheap.. show me the pix.. like this x) first one is JHA.. second one.. i forgot what it was. the little worm on the KB wasn't fig. it seems like it's going to turn into a branch.

I have about four figs already on my Melanzana tree. Isn't too early for that? I mean they are large figs already!

if they are breba, it's not. most of my breba dropped. there're only two still hanging on. also i assume it possible to have main crop in some part of the US.

Brebas.

love it!
the other day did same, went ahead and got up, and pinched all my in ground trees from last year, they haven't fruited for the third year. My wife thought I got upset at something she said... I had to explain that it was NOTHING personal.

sas,

common figs, some of them, will have two crops a yr. first crop or what is called breba will be from last yr's growth like in your picture. main crop will be on this yr's growth. looking at your pix, those are breba crop on probably last yr's growth.

cool.. i wish brebas will hold on on my trees. only have two trees holding on to them. and there are only one each.

Today I noticed some quarter size main crop figs on one of the plants......just did not look to see which one.  Will take a closer look tomorrow and post a pic.

wills, i still have small enough number of trees to know which one is which.. and that's a good thing since the names on the tapes are running again.. i really need to go get that paint marker.

Pete,

For me I think that ship has sailed:)  I use Aluminum tags on the plants as well as a written map and a computer drawn map.   I know it is either Kathleens Black, RDB, LSU Brandy, Macool or Malta Black......I was just in a hurry and did not pay attention but it was in that section.  I will look tomorrow and take a picture.

Pete, How many years did it take for you to get any figs from your KB? Mine is growing like a weed, but no figs last year and no breba this year.

art,

by third yr, i got fed up and started pinching. soon after pinching, they started setting figs. i heard some member mentioning that her KB hasn't set fig in 6th yr. i think pinching your tree might be in order.

also, some members indicate great taste from start. mine didn't improve until second yr putting on the figs.

Good to hear. I think I will have to pinch it this year.
I can't believe how fast this one grows!

KB grows like a weed... it prefers to put on leaves and branches and forget about the figs. the roots will fill up the pot rather quickly also. i pruned my KB hard this winter along with root pruning. i pretty sure i won't see much from my tree this yr.

Hi,
That is early ! Here it is still breba time.

Maincrop pop up time starts as of 1st of July .
My "goutte d'or" was showing 4 new brebas ... but those last turned yellow ... due to colder nights I suppose .
Not funny, my BT was showing a new breba and it is yellowing as well.
ufti had 10 brebas that did dry at the stage of a pea ...
But all those trees started making brebas on the start of April, and those bigger brebas are still hanging on.

At this point, I almost knocked all the brebas on my Dalmatie tree1, as they all got dark stains due the cold weather, or had funny shapes .
So I4ll stick to the plan and I'll do as in 2011, and rely on maincrop only for Dalmatie .

As promised pictures.

Battaglia yes they are small and out of focus, sorry
