Easily the best figs I tasted last year and the story repeats itself this one too!
You do not need to spend your precious time and money on the "rare" and "hard to get" figs , just get a couple of proven varieties and enjoy them every season!

Strawberry Verte and JH Adriatic!

They are simply superb, any rating wouldn't do any justice. Juicy, sweet, tasty, jammy, whatever...
Interesting that with your eyes closed you wouldn't be able to tell them apart, although the leaves and the way the plants grow are totally different.

Pino, that’s a tough question. I would say, 70% is the sun, 29% is the wasp, and %1 is my tender care :)

Those look great Igor. It's interesring to hear that the two varieties taste the same, yet the leaf patterns and growth habits are different.

I just have plain old Verte and plain old Adriatic.  Both are full of figs, but not yet ripe.  Our Southern California sun has been missing this year.  Evidently El Nino is sending storms our way.  Just walked the property, found a huge massive leak in the irrigation lines, and no ripe figs.  Yours look great! 

It's great to hear that some of the more common varieties can be very delicious.  I'm new on here, and hoping that someone can direct me to some very good to excellent tasting varieties that will grow in the south.  I'm willing to give some cold protection to varieties that have excellent taste, so they don't all have to be extremely cold hardy.  I'm just above the Texas line in Oklahoma, and our summers are hot and dry, unlike say, humid and wet southern Louisiana.  I couldn't find JH Adriatic in the varieties page, but it said that Adriatic was "disappointing in the south."  You also mentioned that wasp gave 29% of the success..  Does it need pollination?

Strawberry Verte was one of my best last year. This year Kadota, a lot depends on sunlight and the watering. I agree that you don't have to seek the expensive or rare varieties. I believe Igor built up his collection by trading and through the generosity of fellow members.

Many of my figs came from the UCD and the past annual Jon's sales.
The SV cuttings were purchased from Jon.
Yes, I traded a number of the figs too as well as benefited from our members' generosity.

This forum is a great place to start and I always suggest to do this *slowly* .
It is very heartbreaking when a precious variety perishes because of the inexperience....

How does Strawberry Verte compare/ contrast with Battaglia Green?  

Gorgeous red interior those two BTW, interesting that SV and JHA taste indistinguishable.

The SV has produced about 4x more figs two years in a row.
It also grows faster so maybe that is why it has had more figs.

I do not have a Battaglia and cannot compare, sorry.
