John's Market Capri

LOL, Igor... I would never!
How many kids you have? I have two and I think I am full handed. (4.5 and almost 3 y.o)

Seriously you guys are so lucky!

I was passing by the John's market today and saw the gardner who was cleaning the flower beds. I approached him and started to compliment the tree and before I know he cut a branch and handed it to me saying..." I know a Fig grower when I see one" I was shocked, embarrassed yet happily accepted the cutting and walked back to my car. LOL

PM me with your addresses schaplain and Ruuting.

I made total of 4 sets of packages (2 cuttings each, one harder wood and one green).

I got Tami's info.

Let me know who else wanted , maybe i'll manage to make everyone happy.

Geez, Aaron!  How do you keep finding these trees?  Those leaves are gigantic!  You can almost use them as an umbrella!  I still can't see that fist-sized fig though...

Nate

Nate, look to the left of the fig and u'll see a bigger one behind leaves.

LOL...yes yes..

All cuttings are gone!

I'll pack them during the weekend and ship early Monday morning.
Expect to get it before or on Wednesday.

Thanks everybody :)

Aaron: Very good find. The leaves are very impressive. Last year, I saw a few female fig wasps on my immature figs. I observed them very closely for a few minutes. They were all female. They looked very similar to the fig wasps or closely related the fig wasps. In the near future, when you have more cuttings of this tree, please share a few cuttings with me. I want to do some experiment in Caprifig in the Eastern U.S. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Tam,
You could grow a caprifig but you live in the wrong part of the country for wasps. It gets way too cold there for them to survive all winter.

Tami: Thanks for your comment. I like to do some experiment in hand pollination in Caprifig.

Best,
Tam

Do you have a heated greenhouse for it or just trying it outside?

Tam,

If you want just a caprifig (not the one Aaron has found) and he doesn't ship you any (I do not want to hijack his offers), I can ship you one.
I have a few green caprifigs growing near my house.
Shoot me a PM if interested.

Tam, of course you can have a cutting :)

PM me with your info and my PayPal eMail for S/H cost.

Greenfig: Thank you for your offering.

Aaron: Thanks, I will send you an email.

Your last picture on this thread shows at its center a smaller fig growing on the green wood (2014) .
This fig must be a Mammoni - the second or the Summer crop of the Caprifig- .
Wasps may have already entered into this fig to lay their eggs, warranting the next generation of insects.

Apart from a plentifully provision of gall flowers where the wasps have laid those eggs, the Mammoni fig does also have many female and male flowers.
Loaded with fertile pollen it will be certain that the wasps will pollinate these female flowers and by the time the Mammoni ripens - approx 3 months from now - it will liberate many insects and will also carry a good deal of fertile seeds (with kernels) and ready to give birth to new figs if let to germinate.

I say this as it may interest our fellow members aiming to create new figs..

Francisco

@Francisco, yes, there are a lot of next generation figs on the tree (just like the 2nd pic in #21), specially at the top canapé'. And from what my memory serves me...which is hardly ever nowadays, they become eatable. But I might be wrong, we have to wait and see. I will keep going back to it as the time goes by.

I saw root buds right before I planted and today I saw a green bud above the soil.  This thing wants to grow.

nice going :)
