Jon's Ischia Black Selection

I was wondering if anyone in Canada has Jon's Black Ischia that is healthier than the UCD selection and if you do are you willing to share, trade or sell cuttings?

I'm not in Canada, and don't have any Black Ischia to spare, but does anyone know the original source of Jon's Ischia Black?

While difficult to root and in need of pampering during acclimation to full sun, the IBs I have from Jon appear to be quite healthy and thriving in 2 gallon pots.

This is what Jon said at end of thread to  when asked about
ischia black 3014X that he had several years ago when he listed scion.

From Feb 2011 Jon replaies in post #9

and more recently here

I dont know if he had more than one type or source of ischia black but ischia black 3014X in Feb 2011 was limited because there was not a whole lot of scion to go around and understandably Jon wanted to get out to as many folks as possible.

I enjoy his humor in one of the above threads.

Jon if you have different ischia black "plant" other than a 3014X put me inline first for 1 plant and contact me .   ; )

Hey, slightly off-topic, but I was google-fu'ing around on the internets about black ischia, and I found a really cool pdf from the Redwood Empire about the merits of dried figs from certain varieties.  There was one cool mention about how Black Ischia makes a standout dried fig that might not be for everyone, but there were only two to try!

Thanks Martin. I have read those threads in the past when investigating BI, but had totally forgotten about them.

I got my Black Ischia cuttings from Jon via ebay, and then a second, separate batch purchased directly from him. Neither bundle had 3014X written on it.

So then, what did I buy? A BI hybrid as Herman suggested in one of the threads you linked, or ?

Guess there's no way to ever really know without DNA testing, and even then maybe not totally if two trees are very closely related.

LOL, is this going to be another 'Petite Negra trauma'?  2 in two days....

i'm hoping for UCD Ischia Black. i have to try to grow that one. see if beginner's luck will hold out for me.

Gina i could not honestly tell you.

In the one thread where its mentioned by Herman its a hybred that i do not know as well , Jon mentioned that fella that he got the ischia from got his from UcDavis so i do not know whats exactly what .

Mine does look like ischia black and has fmv as well.

Well ,3014X Black Ischia, Sugests a Hybrid of Black ischia Female breba fruit, with male caprifig polen,Fig #3014.
That is How all Hybrids of other figs are described at UC Davis Germaplasm.
It is also, possibly it was described by mistake 3014 X Black Ischia,Maybe 3014,stands for the street number of the original owner,of an original Ischia Black fig,LOL.
By Contrast Black Ischia,is an old cultivar and can be found at UCD at DFIC 90 Black Ischia, and is not a hybrid.
Black Ischia X Mission X Kearney,is another Black Ischia Hybrid and can be found ,under # DFIC 94

My source did NOT get his tree from USDA/UC Davis, but that does not mean that it did not originally come from UC Davis before he obtained it.

3014X was only an inventory number for the cuttings. It means nothing else.

Ah i understand John 3014X is your inventory # and means nothing else otherwise connected with UcDavis address etc its something you designated to it.
I don't know about you Californians.  ; )

You're right, here in the People's Republic of California (the land of fruits, nuts and flakes), things are a little different. ;-))

Jon,

You sent me one with AD on the label. I think, not home to check.
But they are two letters.
What can you tell us about this one?

Btw,
Very beautiful and very healthy fig. Nothing like what I heard about this fig.

Waiting to hear Jons comment...lol

Well Martin,

Somehow I knew he was going to run and not answer.
He can kiss the truck load of snow goodbye

I'm sending it to Sue

I get him to reply in another thread watch.  ; )

Anyone else enjoying a nice 73F evening? Didn't think so.

Nursery inspection yesterday (passed), as part of less expensive ag inspection fees for shipments t the east coast and south. Yea!

Working on tax filings for the California Board of Equalization this evening. Did I mention shipping, watering, e-mails, and etc.?

3014X is Black Ischia AD.

OK, back to my nice cool evening - don't even need Rafed's snow.

Martin, I'm watching...

Oh and thanx to two valued members of the forum who pointed out the new spammer. He's history.

Good to hear Jon you passed the test, test were my worst nightmare in school reason why i never made it out of HS corse it was the 70s also which did not help either.

Ok so 3014 is black ischia AD geez im running out of room writeing on its pot !

Oh and by the way yes 73 is nice evening but how about a 72 morning which we are enjoying !

i still have nightmares about tests.. i hated school.. tho, if i hit jackpot, i wouldn't mind going back to learn french and history. just didn't care for the tests.

good to hear it might be less expensive to send the trees to east coast!

Congrats Jon on passing the test.

Did one of the tests involve you coughing?

Lol Rafed good one !
I have had 2 of them and its no fun.

Rafed, It involved eating raw snails. I am sure in your delicate condition (recuperating and all) you would not have been up to the challenge. And, no, you are not allowed to cough them up.
